WTF AFRICA – FATHER TIES UP SON FOR WITCHCRAFT

1 (4)-Optimized

A 42-year-old father, Mr. Edet Etok-Akpan, is currently being quizzed at the headquarters of the Cross River State Police Command in Calabar for torturing his six-year-old daughter, Edidiong, as a result of a church prophetess’ pronouncement that the girl was a witch.

Edidiong was beaten by her father and locked up in a room with her hands, mouth and face bound for four days before she was rescued by neighbours.

It was learnt that Etok-Akpan started beating her on February 19 after an unidentified prophetess in their church told him that Edidiong was the witch responsible for the stagnancy in his life.

Narrating her ordeal to PUNCH Metro on Monday, Edidiong said after the beatings which lasted for some days, her father on February 21 tied her hands with a cord and bound her mouth with a piece of cloth.

She said, “He locked me in the inner room of our house and he never gave me food and never allowed me to go to school.”

The girl, who said she is in basic three at Femos Nursery and Primary School located at 24 Etyin Abasi Street, said she was becoming weak after days without food or water.

Luck, however, came her way on February 23, when another child, who lives with her parents in the same 42 Atakpa Street, came to their veranda to look for broom and discovered her.

Giving details of how she was rescued, a lawyer with the Basic Rights Counsel, Mr. James Ibor, said, “The girl went to Edidiong’s veranda to look for a broom and heard the sound of the girl like that of someone battling with her last breath.

“She looked through the louvers of the window and saw Edidiong bound on the floor and raised the alarm. Her parents and other neighbours rushed to the place and saw Edidiong bound inside her apartment.”

Ibor said one of the neighbours called him and he in turn informed the police.

He said, “When the policemen and I got there, we saw a crowd gathered outside. We were able to rescue the child by breaking the door.

“The girl was very weak because she had been without food for days and so we had to give her water first, then after about ten minutes we gave her milk before solid food an hour later.”

Ibor said the culprit and his wife had locked up the girl in the inner room of their two-room apartment and went to church, adding that the girl was presently living with her grandmother in another part of the town.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. John Umoh, said Etok-Akpan, who is from Akwa Ibom State, had been arrested and would soon appear in court to answer charges of felony.

He said, “To tie a small girl’s hand and mouth and lock her in a room for some days without food is a grievous offence, he shall soon appear in court.”

Umoh, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, warned parents to always treat their children with care, adding criminalities are increasing daily because parents had abandoned their responsibilities to their wards.

He also said the police would visit the church where the father got the prophecy.

woman who reportedly discovered that she had faeces in her vagina, was allegedly punched in her mouth by her ex-lover, after she asked for money to pay her doctor bill.

The incident reportedly took place in Kingston on February 7.

The ex-lover, who is employed to a well-known media house, appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court last Thursday and after pleading guilty, was fined $5,000 for assault occasioning bodily harm.

When asked why he had punched his former girlfriend, the accused man told Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey that she was stalking him and showing up at his workplace.

Allegations are that the complainant reported to the cops that she was assaulted after she showed up at the man’s family residence to collect $15,000 he had promised her.

It is reported that both parties ended their romance in December and the complainant contacted the accused after learning from her physician that she had faeces in her vagina.

The woman reported to the police that the accused had made arrangements to pay the doctor’s bill, however she was unable to get him on his phone so she went to his workplace.

It is reported that the woman then went to the man’s family residence and while there she was pushed to the ground. She was also punched in the mouth by the accused.

The matter was reported to the police and the accused man subsequently charged.

DEAR MET, SHOULD I?

Title: Should I?

Message Body:
My babydaddy and I have been separated for like 3 years now our daughter will be 4 y/o in 2 months. Even tho we’re not in a relationship he and I have a very good understanding when it comes on to our child. He’s a good father for the most part, financially I’m taking care of the baby but that’s not a big deal because I can afford to. I send her to jamaica every summer to spend at least 2 months with her dad and he does a very good job taking care of her when she’s there. Now my babydaddy got his visa late last year and since then he’s been to NY to visit his girlfriend 3 times and he hasn’t been to FL to see his daughter not even once. Last time he saw her was August of last year. My daughter had a beauty pageant coming up and I called him to find out if he was coming to watch her for her first pageant and he told me that he didn’t have any money to buy the ticket and he was going thru some stress and all kinds of sad story. An yway 2 days before the pageant he called me and while we were talking he said oh I’m going to NY tomorrow….omg i went off!!! I just couldn’t believe that he would really go visit his girlfriend rather to come and watch his daughter perform. And plus the ticket to NY is much more expensive than the ticket to FL. So right now I have decided to erase him out of my daughter’s life permanently. I changed my phone number and I will not be sending her to Jamaica this summer. Do u think I’m being too hard? My daughter really loves her dad but at the same time if he’s not willing to make sacrifices for her then I don’t really see the sense of having him in her life. And that’s not the only thing he has done but that was just the last straw!

Please tell me what u think
p.s. my daughter won the pageant.

Rumor Control: Reports of Man Spreading HIV Intentionally Are A Malicious Internet Hoax

It has been proven that Isaac Don Burks, 31, the man viciously accused of purposely infecting hundreds of men and women in the Tri-State area with HIV, is the victim of a malicious internet hoax, reports The Examiner.
Read more from the Examiner:
The news report from an NBC affiliate in New York circulated the web via blogs claiming that police were searching for a man named Isaac Don Burks for intentionally spreading HIV in the NY Tri-State area. Over the weekend the story spread like wildfire via blogs, Facebook, Twitter, even Michael Baisden and Steve Harvey shared the “story”. On Monday, the original source was called into question when the link being shared redirected to an Augusta news site.
The original source came from a fake site made to look like the NBC New York 4 website. The slight difference was in the domain. The real NBC affiliate’s domain is www.nbcnewyork.com the fake site used www.nbcnewyork4.com. The original story url still shows up in Google search as http://nbcnewyork4.com/news/local/fugitive-wanted-for-intentionally-spre… yet you no longer go to the original report. Instead, when you click on the link you are directed to an Augusta story about the same man, but for a different incident in 2010 involving identity fraud and forgery.
Because more versions of the hoax continue to be spread online, The Examiner contacted the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Veronica Lewin, Assistant Press Secretary for NYC’s Health Department answered the inquiry and assured the public that the allegations levied against Don Burks are, indeed, false.
Local authorities had issued a $100,000 reward for information leading to Burks arrest. New York City Health Department spokesperson, Kate Caraway, said at the time that she’d never seen a case so severe and widespread:
“We want to make sure that anyone who may have injected drugs with , who may have had sex with him, does come forward and get tested,” she said to a local TV station. “We want to make sure that they’re not spreading the virus to anyone else.”
Since the story spread like wild-fire on social media, Don Burks issued his statement the same way — via Facebook:

The identity of the person who started the rumor and perpetuated the hoax is unknown at this time.
