WELL DONE

Moya_Willams-Optimized

Eighteen-year-old Moya Williams was left stunned recently when she learned Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) had named her, a Jamaican living in the Cayman Islands, its top performer worldwide in travel and tourism.
As a result of her outstanding performance in her exams last June, Moya just over two weeks ago received the ‘Top in the World’ award from CIE, the world’s largest provider of international education programmes and qualifications for students up to 19 years old.
According to CIE, more than 9,000 schools in more than 160 countries are part of its learning community.
Williams, who grew up in Westmoreland and left Jamaica less than a decade ago, studied AS-Level travel and tourism at the Cayman Preparatory and High School in the Cayman Islands.
“This was the first time the programme was being introduced to the school, so we had no students above us who we could ask for help, so I didn’t know what to expect,” Moya told The Gleaner.
“I basically had to seek help from my classmates, so I had no interest in doing the course at first. However, I was convinced by my friend and I decided to take the course.”
She added: “I used every opportunity I had to study and I really had to push myself, just so I could take in everything. I constantly went over my notes just to keep up and I guess it paid off.”
Moya is no stranger to success, having received 11 Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate subjects with grades one and two. She shared that when she received the news of her latest achievement, it took a while to digest.
“I was in the assembly and the principal said somebody here has received the highest award in the world, so my friend and I started calling names of persons in the class who we thought were eligible and then I heard my name,” she explained. “I was so shocked! It took an hour to sink in because I really wasn’t expecting this,” she said.
During that celebration assembly at Cayman Prep and High on January 17, Moya was presented with her Cambridge ‘Top in the World’ award by Shomari Scott, Cayman Islands director of tourism, and Dianne Conolly, tourism training and development coordinator.
Moya’s mother, Karen Williams, was still in awe when she spoke with The Gleaner. She said though she knew her daughter was a disciplined child, she did not anticipate such a high honour.
“Moya is a focused girl. She knows when it’s time to be serious and when it’s time to play and I knew she would do well, but to receive the highest award in the world, words really can’t explain how I am feeling!” said the ecstatic mother.
“I am really overjoyed. She has made us here very proud and also her family in Jamaica. Whenever clients come in, I just begin to tell them and I show them the letter because I’m just so happy,” she continued.
Karen, who left Jamaica for the Cayman Islands in 1990, returned home when she was expecting her bundle of joy. Moya then spent her early years growing up with her grandmother and aunt in Westmoreland before joining her mother in Cayman seven years ago.
Reflecting once more on her achievement, Moya encouraged students to be focused and never forget the importance of hard work.
“You have to work for what you want, it cannot be overemphasised. Make the best of every opportunity so that when you look back, you won’t have any regrets,” she said.

US visa bribery probe deepens
Second security official to be charged
BY PAUL HENRY Co-ordinator Crime/Court Desk [email protected]
Sunday, February 10, 2013

A senior security official who worked in the US Embassy in Kingston is expected to be charged soon for his alleged role in helping the manager of a popular Jamaican entertainer obtain a US visa to leave the island in the face of legal troubles, according to highly placed law enforcement sources.
The manager, law enforcement officials told the Jamaica Observer, works for the Jamaican deejay, who allegedly gave gifts to assistant regional security officer David J Rainsberger who helped the deejay obtain a US visa following the revocation of a previous visa in 2010.
David J Rainsberger (right), is pictured at his birthday party in Kingston in June 2011 with two Jamaican deejays and a member of the US Embassy staff. Rainsberger pleaded guilty last week in a Virginia court to accepting receiving unlawful gratuities from a popular Jamaican artiste whom he helped obtain a visa while stationed at the US Embassy in Kingston.

According to our source, the senior security official — the second US embassy staff member to figure in the probe — gave a statement in mid- 2012 in which he admitted to accepting money, plane tickets and backstage passes to concerts for his effort.
He also admitted to being put up in a resort in Jamaica for assisting the artiste’s manager in securing the visa while stationed in Jamaica from 2009 to 2011.
Last week, 32-year-old Rainsberger pleaded guilty in a Virginia court to receiving unlawful gratuities from the artiste and is to be sentenced on April 19.
According to a release posted on the website of the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia, Rainsberger admitted to accepting two luxury watches worth approximately US$2,500 from the artiste in addition to free admission to nightclubs, backstage access to concerts, and a birthday party hosted by the musician.
The incident occurred while Rainsberger, then a member of the State Department’s Diplomatic Security Service, was stationed at the US Embassy in Kingston from 2009 to 2011.
“While there,” the release stated, “Rainsberger befriended a well-known Jamaican musician whose entry to the US had been barred because of allegations of criminal conduct.” According to the release, Rainsberger’s investigation “of this individual” resulted in the reinstatement of his visa, “which allowed the individual to travel to the US to take advantage of performance and recording opportunities”.
In addition to the charge of receiving unlawful gratuities, Rainsberger also pleaded guilty in an Alexandria, Virginia court to making false statements to the United States Government on a national security questionnaire, which is required to maintain his security clearance.
Rainsberger faces a maximum penalty of two years in prison on the gratuities charge and five years in prison on the false statements charge.
The false statement charge, according to the release, stems from allegations that Rainsberger, who was already married, became engaged to a Jamaican and intentionally withheld disclosure of the relationship from the US Government on Office of Personnel Management Standard Form 86, a national security questionnaire that requires disclosure of close and continuing contact with foreign nationals.
The US authorities also said that Rainsberger repeatedly accessed, without authority, Department of State visa and passport databases for personal purposes.

THESE ARE THE SAME THINGS THEY DO IN JAMAICA

homosexual-arrest_350

A 30-year-old man, Ayo Fatumbi, has been arrested by the Oyo State Police Command for indecently assaulting one Olaoluwa (not real name) by forcefully having anal sex with him.
The crime was allegedly committed by the accused and one Ade who is currently at large on Thursday, January 24, at the residence of one Bolaji Adedayo on Gbadebo Street, Mokola area of Ibadan.
Crime Features learnt that on the fateful day, Olaoluwa’s mother sent him on an errand and was intercepted on the staircase by Fatumbi and Ade.
He was allegedly dragged into Adebayo’s room, who was not around then, after which his assailants brought out a knife, threatening to kill him if he would not submit himslef to their demand.
They were said to have pulled off Olaoluwa’s clothes and took turns to insert their penises in his anus to have sex with him. After they allegedly had their way, they were said to have threatened him again that they knew his school, warning him strictly not to tell anyone.
The bubble burst on Sunday, January 27, when, during Sunday School in the church, a woman noticed that the seat of Olaoluwa’s trousers was stained with blood as he was bleeding from his anus. After much persuasion, Olaoluwa opened up to the woman and narrated his experience to her.
He was immediately rushed to Jericho Hospital, Ibadan where he was treated. The medical report indicated that “there are two noticeable tear (laceration) in the 6’oclock position of anal verge”.
Fatumbi, who said he was married with two children said he was forced into the homosexual act by another man, Ade, whom he met through another friend. He, however, said that he only hugged the boy.
According to Fatumbi, “I knew Bolaji on January 9, this year, through my friend, Busayo, whom I used to carry with my motorcycle which I use for commercial purpose. I met another man, Ade, through Busayo again, on Wednesday, January 23. Ade is also Bolaji’s friend. Busayo told me the guy was living in Akure. Ade asked for my number, saying that he would be calling me to take him out anytime he comes to Ibadan.
“The following morning, on Thursday, Ade started calling, asking me to come and pick him to a place. Shortly after, Bolaji also called me to go and pick a bunch of keys that he forgot at the place I took him the previous day. I did not meet the person and I told him. He asked me to go to his house to wait for him. Ade called me thereafter and asked me to wait for him at Sango so that I could take him to Iwo Road for his onward journey to Akure.
“We went together to Bolaji’s house and met his wife. She gave me the key to a room where I sat on the rug, charging my phone. Bolaji called me and said that the person I wanted to collect his key from had come and I should go back. I went to the backyard where his wife was washing to tell her but by the time I returned to the room, I met Ade with Olaoluwa in the room.
“What I saw shocked me because they were in each other’s arms. Ade asked whether such had not been done with me before and I said no. I wanted to go out but he said I could not, threatening that he was a cultist. Ade dragged the boy onto a mattress behind a seater and had sex with him. After he had finished, he called me to come and take my turn.
“ I held the boy, I could not do anything. Ade shouted at me to put my penis in the boy’s anus but I said I could not do it. Holding a knife, he also threatened that if we should tell anybody, he would kill us. After a while, he asked me to get up and the boy left. As I was leaving, Ade asked me to take him to Alakia area. He threatened me again and I promised not tell anyone.”
However, 38-year-old Bolaji Adedayo, in whose room the crime was allegedly committed, confessed that though he did not join Ade and Fatumbi to indecently assault Olaoluwa, he was also into the practice until about a year ago when the man he was dating died. He revealed that he dated the man for two years, saying that they met at a party.
Adedayo, a father of two, said he was introduced to homosexualism by one Gbenga while he was in school and he continued to engage in it even after marriage. He revealed that Gbenga would hold him in a hug and would caress his (Adedayo) penis until he would ejaculate. It was a different style with his late partner whose name he gave as Tayo. Adedayo said he used to put his penis between his partner’s inner thighs until he would attain the height of sexual pleasure.
He said he had been trying to stop the habit but it had reduced from the way he was participating actively in the past. He added that his pastor was aware of his habit and been praying for him so that he could stop. Adedayo also told Crime Features that his friend, Busayo and Ade were also into same sex relationship.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr Clement Adoda, confirmed the story when contacted.

Calif. preschool closing after alleged sex between 4- and 5-year-olds
Parents are teaming up to file a lawsuit citing inept supervision after two boys at First Lutheran Church of Carson School reportedly received oral sex from a 5-year-old girl.

A California preschool is reportedly closing its doors amidst allegations of sexual activity among several of its students.
A California preschool is reportedly shutting down after disturbing allegations of sexual activity among several of its 4- and 5-year-old students emerged.

First Lutheran Church of Carson School is closing midsemester amid reports that two boys received oral sex from a 5-year-old girl on school grounds, according to KABC-TV.

Attorney Greg Owen, who is representing some of the children’s families, said the sexual acts took place at nap time, at a school playground and at an outside bathroom.

“It all boils down to a lack of supervision,” Owen told ABC News. “There were times when teachers would let aides in the room for hours at a time to watch the kids. During nap time, the aides would be sleeping, and the children would have been molesting each other during this time.”

Owen is representing several parents who are planning to file a lawsuit against the Carson, Calif., school, which has allegedly been cited by the California Department of Social Services for “at least one sexual incident that involved young students.”

School officials told KABC that its decision to close comes after the school director resigned due to personal reasons and has nothing to do with the allegations.

Parent Richard McCarthy says that’s far from the truth.

He said his son received oral sex from the young girl on multiple occasions.

Richard McCarthy says his son received oral sex from a 5-year-old girl multiple times.

“He told me about all the bad things that girl had been doing to him,” McCarthy told the local station. “It went down in the classroom, it went down in the bathroom and it went down out on the playground.”

At least one other boy allegedly received oral sex from the same girl.

“Their lives will be ruined in many ways,” Owen told ABC News of the children. “And we know there are many more (victims).”

Parents, meanwhile, are struggling to find new schools for their kids.

“There’s no way I can just take him to another school and be that parent that just lets a predator loose,” McCarthy said of his son. “How else do you explain it?”

McCarthy said he spoke to three other parents who are worried about sending their kids elsewhere.

“Parents are saying, ‘My child is now a predator. Now how can I let him go to another school?’” he explained.

“There were many children lying there, and they watched these acts. In our business and in psychological terms, that’s sexualizing a child at a young age.”
