Police chief: Wisconsin spa shooting suspect died of self-inflicted wound

A man police suspected of killing three and wounding four by opening fire at a tranquil day spa was found dead Sunday afternoon following a six-hour manhunt that locked down a shopping center, country club and hospital in suburban Milwaukee.

Authorities said they believed the shooting was related to a domestic dispute. The man they identified as the suspect, Radcliffe Franklin Haughton, 45, of Brown Deer, had a restraining order against him. Haughton grew up in Wheeling and Northbrook, according to his father.

Brookfield Police Chief Dan Tushaus said Haughton died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was found in the spa. Authorities initially believed Haughton had fled and spent much of Sunday looking for him.

The shooting happened about 11 a.m. at the Azana Day Spa, a two-story, 9,000-square-foot building across from a major shopping mall in Brookfield, a middle-to-upper class community west of Milwaukee. Hours later, a bomb squad descended on the building, and Tushaus said an improvised explosive device had been found inside.

The mall, a country club adjacent to the spa, a nearby hospital and other buildings were locked down as police searched for Haughton.

Shortly before authorities said Haughton’s body had been found, his father, Radcliffe Haughton, Sr., told The Associated Press and a television station in telephone interviews from Florida that he had last spoken to his son a few days ago, but didn’t have any indication anything was wrong.

He said then that he had a message for his son: “Please just turn yourself in or contact me.”

When reached by the Chicago Tribune, Haughton Sr. said he had not heard that his son had been found dead.

“I don’t know nothing, I’m in Florida,” said Haughton Sr.

Haughton Sr. said his son grew up in Wheeling and Northbrook and said his son lived in Wisconsin. He said his son’s actions don’t represent the family’s values.

“It’s not the family, the family don’t believe in this,” said Haughton Sr.

Tushaus said officers initially focused on reaching and helping the victims. The victim’s names were not released by authorities, and a hospital treating the victims also was put on lockdown. Staff members were being escorted into the building, and critically injured patients were being accepted with a police escort. Officers were stationed at all main entrances to the facility.

A sea of ambulances and police vehicles collected at the scene shortly after the shooting. A witness, David Gosh of nearby West Allis, told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel he was returning from duck hunting with his father and a friend when he saw a woman emerge from the spa, screaming, as she ran into traffic. The area is near an interstate and a busy commercial road.

“She ran right out into the street was pounding on cars,” Gosh told the newspaper. He said that moments later, a man with a handgun ran out, and appeared to be chasing her, then went back inside.

People inside the mall were patiently awaiting updates, and for word they could leave. Gina Kralik, a bartender at Red Robin Gourmet Burgers in the mall, said by telephone that the restaurant was still locked down as of about 3 p.m. She said 18 people were there — all employees except for a couple reporters who managed to get in. She said people were allowed to leave at one point, but then the police decided not to let anyone come or go from the mall.

“We’re just sitting watching the news and also trying to find out what’s going on,” she said.

Police released little about Haughton other than a physical description and a photo. They said he was wearing a grey sweater, jeans, and carrying a white and black backpack. They said he was 6-foot-2, and more than 200 pounds.

Online court records showed a temporary restraining order was issued against Haughton in Milwaukee County Circuit Court on Oct. 8 because of a domestic abuse complaint. Haughton appeared in court Thursday, when a no-contact order was issued and he was told to turn all his weapons over to the sheriff’s department.

It was not clear who sought the restraining order, but his father said he was married.

It was the second mass shooting in Wisconsin this year. Wade Michael Page, a 40-year-old Army veteran and white supremacist, killed six people and injured three others before fatally shooting himself Aug. 5 at a Sikh temple south of Milwaukee.

The shooting at the mall took place less than a mile from where seven people were killed and four wounded on March 12, 2005, when a gunman opened fire at a Living Church of God service held at a hotel.

A 32-year-old man was shot and killed outside a Brooklyn night club early Sunday morning, officials said.

At approximately 4:30 a.m., Police responded to a call about shots fired at Pat’s Palm Tree on Church Avenue in Flatbush and discovered a man with multiple gun shot wounds.

He was taken to Kings County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The man’s identity has not been released, pending family notification.

According to the New York Post, the man was a bouncer at the club and was caught in the crossfire after a fight between two groups at the club spilled out onto the street.

No arrests have been made. An investigation is ongoing.

 A pregnant Brooklyn woman due to get married tomorrow was found stabbed to death inside her home this morning, cops and friends said.

Vindalee Smith, 38, was found unconscious inside her basement East Flatbush apartment about 9:30 a.m., authorities said.

Smith, who was due to deliver a baby boy in two weeks, had stab wounds to her neck, a source said.

Her devastated oldest daughter, Monique, arrived at the home late morning, screaming, “Where is my mom? I want to see my mom!”

“She fell on the floor and couldn’t get up,” a friend of Smith’s said. “It was so sad. She came for a baby shower and a wedding — but now she has to stay for a funeral.”

Police were looking for suspects or a motive for the slaying, the source added.

Smith worked for a home health-care agency for the elderly. She was a devout Seventh-Day Adventist who frequented the nearby New Dimension Church — where she was supposed to get married today.

“When the church heard of her death, it was unbelievable — everyone was crying, everyone was at a loss,” said Sybil Samuel, 58, who went to Smith’s home with several members of the church. “Whoever did this must be the devil. He took the lives of not one but two people.”

Smith was always the first to arrive at New Dimension — and always brought along a warm smile, friends said.

“Everyone is hurting within the community,” said churchgoer Melrose, who asked her last name not be used. “Vindalee was a good Christian — she didn’t deserve this.

“Whoever did this was a savage, a monster!”

Smith had four children — two teenage boys and two girls in their twenties. She had been living in the apartment for a few weeks while her boys stayed with family friends.

“She was supposed to move out after this weekend, after being married, to bring the family together,” said Pastor Ferron Francis, whose church was all set to throw Smith a baby shower last night.

“She was a jovial person,” the pastor added. “She was a very dedicated and caring person. She was a mother and father to her children and was very protective and supportive of them.”

Francis said Smith had received death threats from a former neighbor with whom she had an ongoing “misunderstanding” in a previous address.

“She had some issues with some people in the past who had actually threatened to kill her and her entire family,” Francis said.

The threats ceased once she moved to East Flatbush. But she told the pastor she had received new threats as recently as two weeks ago, he told The Post.

It is unclear if she reported the recent threats to police — or what sparked the alleged incidents.

Meanwhile, a vigil was held to mark the 1-year death anniversary of another Brownsville mother — Zurana Horton, 34 — who died defending a group of children from a gangbanger’s bullets just two miles from where Smith was killed yesterday.

“We all have to graduate and go to our prom knowing our mother won’t be there,” said Tyquran Horton, 17, whose youngest siblings still don’t understand their mother isn’t coming back. “She’s a hero to all of us.”

Breasts to a man are what cotton candy is to a boy. And breasts to a man are what a million inexhaustible credit cards are to a woman.

Kids love Charlie’s Chocolate Factory, and I’m effing waiting for a man version of Charlie and the Booby Factory. Can you imagine that? Of course, you don’t want to. Unless you’re a man.

Why do guys like breasts?

Most women wonder why men like breasts and think this obsession is ridiculous and perverse. But just like most women are suckers for sweet talk, flowers, chocolates or ridiculous cravings in the middle of the night, men are suckers for a great pair of them boobs.
If I could use a boob wallpaper on my iPad, I wouldn’t be testing its features, I’d be testing it for drool resistance. And yeah, I’d stop using my pillow.
No, of course, I don’t do that! Who told you that?

Now I’m not going to tell you the psychological or the evolutionary reasons behind why guys like breasts. It’s too clean and rather indecent to blame evolution for my interest in perfect breasts. And I’m sure all you pretty ladies reading this want to know why men like a woman’s breasts and what he thinks about when he sees a great pair. But if you want to know the evolutionary reason behind why men like breasts, we’ll put an evolutionary piece up just for you very soon.

It’s out of view

Moving on now, why do men like breasts? Well, simply because it’s out of our view. Men can’t see any the breasts of any woman they want, unless there’s a movie clip somewhere on the internet. And that makes it so much more alluring and enticing. One of the first things that distinguish a man from a woman is the breasts, and other than the wider hips, it’s really the only distinguishing feature that’s completely obvious to recognize a woman.

And let’s not forget how close to eye contact level breasts really are. You just need to look a few degrees lower than a girl’s eyes, and whoa! Gold mine!

To make it harder for the man, breasts are almost always covered. And that means men are not supposed to see it. And that makes men want to see it all the more. And in a well fitting tee shirt, it’s worth stopping, staring and fantasizing about them.

Mysterious mind games

When a man looks at a woman’s breasts, he notices the shape it creates on the tee shirt. And it almost always looks good. How good? That depends on a lot of other things we’ll get to in a bit.

A good pair of breasts stimulates a man’s mind and makes him visualize how good the breast must actually look like. It’s mysterious, and men are born explorers. And this makes the mind play games on him and gets him into a mini game of twenty questions. How do those boobs really look? Could she be great in bed? Can I see her nipples through the shirt? Is that a push up bra? Man, how many inches is that cleavage? And it ends with an answer. Ding ding! Gosh, she would be so good in bed!

Covered breasts create mystery, mystery creates a game of twenty questions, and the man gets the answer in the end. She’s hot!

Breasts and the curves

Other than on the street, why do men like breasts? Men like breasts a lot because it looks so good on a woman. A good pair of breasts can just transform a woman’s curves from a hmm-second-glance to an ohh-god-ohhh-god grunting boner in front of the mail box like Rob Schneider in the Animal.

Guys don’t have breasts, and that makes them all the more fascinating to us. We’re flat on the chest and even if we bench press every day, all we’d get is a firm board that feels nothing like a woman’s breast. And the curious awe makes guys love it even more. Has your man ever just touched your breast and told you how soft and nice it feels? Now you know just how jealous he really is!

Guys love the way breasts feel

Women are a lot softer and nicer to touch than men. I don’t know why, but no matter how often a guy shaves his chest, he’s never going to feel as soft as a girl’s breasts could feel. There are some men who stroke themselves instead of a woman’s breasts, but as I said earlier, they’re probably perverts.

A guy could spend all day stroking a great pair of breasts with his hands. And each time his fingers pass by a little pointy speed bump in the middle, he’d love running his hands all the more, all over again. To a man, breasts are really the softest things in the world. They’re like marshmallows, just a lot, lot better!

When do guys like breasts the most?

Guys like breasts all the time, whether the girls sleeping or walking, or partying or talking. A man just can’t help but look south when he thinks he can sneak a peek. But if you’re looking for the perfect setting to make your boobs look so darn irresistible, then here’s every guy’s top boob looks!

Tight tee shirts: Men love tight tee shirts more than anything else in the world. Almost all girls wear well fitting tee shirts, and that’s pretty much the definition of a tight tee shirt. Wear a thin tight tee and a guy’ll have a hard time taking his eyes off your rack.

Cleavages: There’s something so awe inspiring in a perfect cleavage. A great cleavage may be a few inches deep, but to a guy, it could seem so mesmerizingly awesome and attention grabbing that he could stare at it forever. And hence the phrase, never ending cleavage!

Sideboob: Moths are drawn to a flame. Men are drawn to a sideboob. Every single guy finds this completely irresistible. He may be a respectable guy who knows how to stare at a girl’s cleavage without making her feel uncomfortable, but not when the girl’s flashing a sideboob. Every guy just has to look. It’s like gravity, a man can’t help it.

Now these are just three circumstances when a man finds a woman’s breasts completely irresistible. But there are other times too when a man thinks a woman’s breasts are awesome. Like when she has a nipple slip, if she’s public flashing or when she’s just doing her own thing, or walking on the street, or sitting down in a café, or hanging out with her friends.
Yeah, that’s right. Guys like breasts no matter what a girl is doing anyways. So it really doesn’t matter if you’re dressing sexy or lounging in an old pullover. Men will still stare at breasts.

So why do guys like breasts? For all the reasons above and a million other reasons that are as unique as the man himself. But if there’s one thing we men do know for certain, it’s the fact that men like breasts and they can’t really do anything about it!
