Tyler James Deutsch, 25, was charged with assault of a child in the first degree, criminal mistreatment in the first degree and interfering with the reporting of domestic violence.

A Washington state man accused of putting his infant daughter inside a freezer long enough for her body temperature to drop to 84 degrees was charged Tuesday with first-degree child assault, first-degree criminal mistreatment and interfering with the reporting of a domestic violence incident.

His bail was set at $1 million, NBC station KING5 of Seattle reported.
Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist said the 6-week-old baby also suffered a broken arm and leg and a head injury.
Tyler James Deutsch, 25, and the baby’s mother live together in a trailer in the city of Roy. The mother left the child alone with Deutsch from about 1:30 until 3:30 p.m. Saturday, KING5 reported.
The prosecutor’s office said Deutsch told detectives he was tired and the baby was crying, so he put her in the freezer and closed the door, according to KING5.
The man then fell asleep and only woke up when the mother returned home.
According to the prosecutor’s office, Deutsch did not remove the baby from the freezer until the mother returned to the trailer. The baby was only wearing a diaper, KING5 reported.
The mother tried to call 911, but Deutsch wouldn’t allow it because he didn’t want to get in trouble the prosecutor’s office said. She then left the trailer and alerted the neighbors, who called for help.
Doctors believe the baby will survive.
The charges filed against Deutsch are preliminary, The News Tribune reported. He could face a life sentence if convicted.

The Constitutional Court began hearing on Monday, an application brought against the island’s two free-to-air television stations for refusing to carry an advertisement promoting tolerance of homosexuals.

Human rights activist and attorney-at-law Maurice Tomlinson is accusing the television stations of breaching the Constitution, after having refused to run a public service announcement in 2012, asking Jamaicans to love and respect their fellow citizens who are homosexuals.

The legal challenge also includes the government-owned Public Broadcasting Corporation of Jamaica.

Tomlinson is arguing that the actions of the stations violate the country’s Charter of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms.

The human rights activist is contending that the charter guarantees the unique right of Jamaicans to seek, receive, distribute, or disseminate information, opinions and ideas through any medium.

Tomlinson says this right was included in the charter when it was passed in 2011.

The human rights activist is claiming that the stations have previously taken payment and aired similar advertisements promoting tolerance.

He is claiming that the stations have given no justifiable reason for refusing to air the latest advertisement, and he wants the court to find that their actions have breached the Constitution.

Tomlinson is being represented by attorneys-at-law Lord Anthony Gifford and Anika Gray.

The court hearing is expected to last until Friday.

Police in Gweru have arrested a 19-year-old from Riverside in Gweru after he allegedly fatally stabbed a rival suitor with a broken beer bottle in the stomach following a misunderstanding over a prostitute.

Acting Midlands police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident, which occurred last Thursday at Main Street Bar at around 8pm. By yesterday news going around was that the fight was over a girlfriend, but it has since come to light that it was a hooker.

Insp Mahoko said Mduduzi Makamu fatally stabbed Farai Chibvura (21) of Thornhill Airbase in Gweru in a fight over a prostitute.

“We have arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with the murder of Farai Chibvura who died after he was stabbed on the stomach by a broken bottle while drinking beer at a beerhall.

“Investigations show that the two had a misunderstanding over a prostitute who was drinking beer in the same bar,” he said.

Insp Mahoko said on the fateful day, the now deceased Chibvura was drinking beer at Main Street Bar in the company of Tichaona Maweni (24) and Ernest Musithu (24) both of Thornhill Airbase when they saw the suspect Makamu, in the company of a prostitute he had hired.

He said the now deceased Chibvura then approached and confronted Makamu accusing him of snatching his girlfriend.

“A heated argument ensued between two, which later degenerated into a fist fight. Maweni intervened trying to restrain the two, but Makamu broke a beer bottle and stabbed Maweni on the cheek.

“The three were then ordered to leave the bar by the bar manager,” he said.

Insp Mahoko said while outside, the fight continued between the now deceased Chibvura and Makamu leading to Makamu using the same broken bottle to stab his rival on the stomach.

“Makamu then stabbed Chibvura, ripping open his stomach before escaping from the scene of crime.

“Chibvura tried to walk towards his residence but collapsed and died on approaching Thornhill Airbase main entrance.

The deceased’s body was discovered by Thomas Chivindiso who then made a report,” he said.
Insp Mahoko said Makamu was later arrested after police investigations linked him to the crime.

“We appeal to members of the public to seek better ways of resolving disputes rather than resorting to violence,” he said.
