Three Sentenced in Alabama Stolen Identity Refund Fraud Conspiracy
Conspirators Defrauded Federal Government and Several States
Mary Bennett, Narendrakumar Patel and Eugenia Burks, all residents of Elmore County, Ala., were sentenced for their roles in an identity theft and tax fraud scheme. Bennett was sentenced today to 75 months in prison; Patel was sentenced yesterday to 24 months in prison; and Burks was sentenced yesterday to 18 months in prison. Bennett had previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, as well as aggravated identity theft, while Burks also had pleaded guilty to conspiracy. Patel pleaded guilty to forging state securities. Assistant Attorney General for the Justice Department’s Tax Division Kathryn Keneally, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Alabama Sandra J. Stewart, the U.S. Secret Service and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) made the announcement.
According to court documents, the defendants were part of a conspiracy to fraudulently obtain both federal income tax refunds as well as state income tax refunds from several different states by using stolen identities to file false tax returns. Fraudulently obtained refund checks were mailed to various addresses used by the conspiracy, while other refunds were obtained through direct deposits into numerous bank accounts controlled by the conspiracy. Bennett admitted to being the one responsible for actually filing the false tax returns and also to storing stolen identity information at her home. Some of the checks obtained by the scheme were cashed by Patel, the former owner of a check-cashing business, who admitted that he knowingly cashed the forged checks and shared in the proceeds.
The case was investigated by special agents of the U.S. Secret Service and the IRS – Criminal Investigation. Tax Division Trial Attorney Jason H. Poole and Assistant U.S. Attorney Todd Brown prosecuted the case.

KHAGO LIE OOOOOOOOOO
DIS A WHEY HIM TELL STAR AND MI DID HAFFI ANSA BACK HIM TOO BAD MON
Downsound Records (DSR) says they have severed ties with artiste Khago because he was getting increasingly difficult to work with.
According to producer Skatta Burrell, it was on that basis alone that the company decided to part ways with the artiste.
“He was becoming impossible to work with, so we parted ways on that grounds alone. He has been saying that he only has a booking contract with us but that is not true, he has a management and booking deal with the company. The contract is sitting in the office right now with his signature on it,” Skatta said.
Skatta went on to say that Khago is a good artiste, but that he needs to stop walking over the people who had helped his career.
“Maybe he is trying to generate some level of hype by doing this or maybe him have amnesia cause he has issues. DSR is a management company. When he had his issues with Sizzla, if we were only his booking agents, we wouldn’t have hired additional security for him. It’s either him forget or him ungrateful. Khago doesn’t need to lie because we have proof with his signature. Joe Bogdanovich has done a lot for reggae music and if Khago finds it hard to be at DSR and grow, then he definitely has issues,” Skatta said.
Khago, however, denied claims of a management contract.
personal issues
“Mi nuh know wha Skatta a talk bout cause him a Downsound clown. Him a look a hype. I decided to leave DSR because of my personal issues. I don’t have a management deal with them because I am still signed to someone else. I have a booking agent agreement deal with DSR,” Khago said.
“When I went to DSR last year mi book out straight till December, Joe tell mi sey he will act as a manager and him will do tings like give me one music video every three months, maintain my visibility on TV, produce band for me, gimme a stylist and more tings. Unuh see me inna designer clothes? A nine tings him promise and mi nuh see dem yet,” Khago continued.
According to Khago, to make matters worst, he felt as if he was unable to speak to Bogdanovich about his lack of fulfilling his end of the bargain.
“Instead of taking 10%, Joe start take 23% because him say him a go deliver pon dem nine tings deh. Nobody never book a show fi me through DSR, if a dem mi a wait pon mi wudda suffer. A Violet book fi me and she take her 10% and she send the rest a di money come give Joe and him take out 23% out a wha she send and him know a nuh him a book di show dem,” Khago explained.
He continued, “Mi and Joe go farin wha day and mi tell him say me waan have a reason wid him. When we come offa di plane, him jump inna him X6 and press gas. Dis come like slavery. Joe nah have no meeting wid me unless Skatta is there and mi nuh sign to Skatta. Joe always a tell me say him busy when mi link him. Unuh need fi tell Skatta fi go siddung cause the first time me go DSR a run dem a run Skatta and tek whe him bimma key and him a bawl and a me haffi beg fi him. Skatta need fi stop watch Joe pocket and make Joe focus on music.”

TAMPA — Lawyers for imprisoned reggae star Buju Banton had an expert search juror Terri Wright’s computer this month to see if she read up on him while hearing his 2011 drug case.
While the expert found a trail of 1.6 million Internet history records, none pertained to the time frame under scrutiny: Feb. 14, 2011, to March 8, 2011, dates that include the trial and the two weeks that followed.
On Monday, the Banton side renewed its attack, claiming she surrendered the wrong device. Not so, said her attorney, Lori Palmieri, on Tuesday.

“She only had one computer; it was a laptop, and she brought it. In my opinion, end of story, but not in their story.”
Banton, whose real name is Mark Anthony Myrie, was convicted of trying to set up a deal to buy 11 pounds of cocaine and sentenced to 10 years in prison.
His lawyers want a new trial.
