Woman denies knowing Shanique Myrie

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Pamela Clarke, the woman with whom Shanique Myrie said that she would be staying during a visit to Barbados, denied knowing the Jamaican on Tuesday.
“I don’t know Shanique Myrie. I have never spoken to her,” she testified before the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) the second day in the Barbados leg of case.

Clarke, under cross-examination, said that her friend, Daniel Forde, had spoken spoke to her about a friend of his visiting from Jamaica.
She said that Forde had asked her to allow him to give his friend her name and number if that person had any difficulties on arrival in Barbados.
She insisted that Forde did not give her a name but she assumed it was a woman.
Clarke told the court that on March 14, 2011 she received a call from Forde enquiring whether or not anyone had called her, to which she replied no.
She said shortly afterwards she received a call from a person who identified himself as a police officer asking if she had someone coming in from Jamaica.
According to Clarke she told the officer that Forde would collect the visitor and the officer requested some form of identification for Forde.
“I did not agree that my name and address be given to the immigration officer,” Clarke said, adding, “I did not agree with Danny (Daniel Forde) that anyone could stay”.
Clarke said she later received another call from a senior police officer asking if it was her practice to clear people through immigration, to which she replied “no”.
Myrie has brought a suit against the Barbados government claiming damages for discrimination and demeaning treatment, including two illegal cavity searches at the Grantley Adams International Airport in March 2011, which, she said, were done because of her nationality.
