FOR OUR 50TH

Hi Met,
I wantto bring to your attention a story which was recently featured on TVJ (a three part series).  It once again brings to the forefront the growling reality that despite the many vehicles traversing our roads and the many patrons dressed in the most expensive foreign apparrell, there are a number of our fellow Jamaicans who are unable to afford the basic commodities such as a regular  sized loaf of bread.
I would in no way infer that everyone is not entitled to enjoy the fruits of their labour (gone are the days of the Marxist / socialist societies & ideology).  However, we all still have a part to play in assisting,  in whatever way that we are able, those who are less fortunate.  This may include monetary assistance or even encoragement in the form of motivational communications with our brothers and sisters of lesser means.
I do hope the underlining issues of this story are not overshadowed by our opinions of what they could have done differently.  I do hope that we will once again use this opportunity to show the world and each other the true and inherent nature of the Jamaican spirit.  Because despite the differences of our skin colour, social and economic situation, we are ‘Out of Many One People’.
Let us celebrate our 50th year of Independence by assisting in the uplifting of our fellow Jamaicans who are in need of help.
