GWAAN CHOO SHAGGY

Persons wishing to donate to The Shaggy Make A Difference Foundation can now do so via text message, thanks to telecommunications firms Digicel and LIME. By sending a text message to Digicel 488-4175, anyone can donate $20 to the charity and for LIME text the number 444-4248 for a donation of $50 per sms. Both will benefit the Bustamante Hospital for Children.

The Shaggy Make a Difference Foundation is the producer of the annual Shaggy and Friends benefit concert, which also raises well-needed money for the Bustamante hospital – the only children’s hospital in the English-speaking Caribbean.

Reggae superstar Shaggy, who is also the executive director of the foundation, said the donation lines help people to be heroes in their own way.

“Not every superhero wears a cape you know. People can donate to a fantastic cause and help save the lives of the countless children who need services at the Bustamante Children’s Hospital,” he said.

The diamond-selling artiste is reminding the public that all the proceeds from the donation line and the Shaggy & Friends Benefit Concert go directly to address the glaring needs of the hospital.

“Anyone with a phone on any network can just simply send a text to 488-4175 for Digicel donations of $20 and 444-4248 for LIME donations of $50 and help us continue the work that we have started. This year, our focus is on the cardiac unit of the hospital which is where needs the most help,” Shaggy said.

Now in its third year, the Shaggy & Friends benefit concert will see the likes of Shaggy, Lauryn Hill, Eve, Half-Pint, Coco Tea, Maxi Priest, I-Octane, Gyptian, Mr Vegas, Wayne Marshall, Tami Chynn, Deniece Williams, Assassin and Romain Virgo. Set for Saturday, the concert will be held on the grounds of Jamaica House.
