Senior investigators are hot on the heels of the perpetrators responsible for shooting and critically injuring Oneil Edwards of the popular dancehall group Voicemail.

Meanwhile, dancehall entertainer Mad Cobra, real name Ewart Everton Brown, was admitted to the Spanish Town Hospital yesterday evening after being shot in Portmore, St Catherine, a source close to the artiste confirmed.

While preliminary investigations into the Edwards attack have suggested that the motive behind the attack could be robbery, detectives involved in the investigation are now in the process of apprehending the suspects they believe are responsible.

"We have been working on some strong leads, which have so far led us to the recovery of the artiste's cellular phone which was robbed from him," the Area 4 crime officer, Deputy Superintendent Michael Hugh Phipps, told The Gleaner yesterday.

The entertainer was shot several times while attempting to enter his home in Duhaney Park, St Andrew, early Monday morning. Up to yesterday afternoon, he was still hospitalised in critical condition.

In the meantime, the internal car park of the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) was transformed into an emotional, church-like scene.

With Bibles in hand, fellow artistes, friends, relatives and well-wishers were all in a sombre mood, as they grouped themselves in a circular formation and prayed openly.

The group, which included a number of high-profile artistes, sang gospel songs and took turns in addressing the fair-size crowd which came out to offer their support to the injured artiste.

Another prayer vigil was scheduled to be held at the KPH car park last night.
