If we are occupying the corners it must mean that we want to reclaim
the corners. That begs the question of who are we reclaiming the
corners from? Why are they there in the first place. Those are harder
questions to deal with but that is precisely where we must go. We must
demand more from those who would seek to lead us. A take off on occupy
walls street is good for headlines and the news media but how do we
translate that into proper education for our kids, stopping police
brutality and economic opportunity.

Finally let’s be mindful that those kids on the corners are our kids.
They are not heads for police officers to bust or the reason why there
is violence in our communities. The violence is a reaction to
something more insidious yet vile. It is the manifestation of lack of
opportunity, recreation, proper schooling, parentage, and a myriad of
other things that we can change.

Remember there is no such thing as black on black crime. That is a
creation of the “larger” culture which says look in the mirror you are
doing it to yourself. I’ll accept that when they start talking about
white on white crime, Chinese on Chinese crime and so.

So let us occupy the corner but be aware of what we really need. AND DEMAND IT.

THE STAR has learnt that it was a dispute over an energy drink that resulted in the gruesome killing of a promoter in Portmore, St Catherine, recently.
Chase Facey, 24, otherwise called Carleito Style Dem of the Style Dem Crew, was killed in an incident that reportedly happened around 2:45 a.m. on August 18.
Information reaching THE STAR is that Facey was stabbed and killed while at a dance in the Westmeade community.
Reports from the Bridgeport police are that Facey was at the event in the community when residents observed that he had fallen to the ground. When checks were made, Facey was seen suffering from a wound to the chest. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Despite the report, a source explained that, “Him sen a girl go buy it (the drink) and di yute grab it from her. When him go to the yute dem ketch up ina argument and di yute hug him up and stab him in his chest. When him run off him drop right ina the middle a di dance.”
Another source informed THE STAR that persons inside the dance were oblivious to what was happening.

The sources say Facey was on the ground for about 20 minutes before he was taken to the hospital.
But for relatives and friends the tragedy did not end there as THE STAR was informed that on Sunday a close friend of Facey was also shot and killed.
He has only been identified as ‘Moby Dick’.
