PUT YOUR X BESIDE SOME SENSE
Today we are now learning that Clans man default leader Narvado Hodges was beheaded and his head tossed behind L.O.J plaza. Allegedly , he was accused of killing Renase James, Tesha Miller’s sister. Would it be subhuman to think that all these events were well orchestrated?
Election announced a few weeks before it was ready to commence, Bruce Golding the former Prime Minister stepped down, the United States tossing information for the world to see just how much they have Jamaica by the blade. But, just what else is new, this time around?
Shall we say knowledge and technology? If we agree on this then we have no choice but to not vote . How many more times are lives going to be totally disregarded and people treated like cattle, to obtain a position in office? Will we still continue to accept less and less each year from the candidates, seeing that we have more knowledge and coan back it up with technology ?

PEPITA NO LONGER ON INTENSE
SHELDON WILLIAMS, Staff Reporter
‘Chica Pepita’
Popular television personality and host of the Television Jamaica(TVJ) entertainment programme Intense the ‘Chica Pepita’ will no longer be associated with the brand. The host and television station parted company yesterday following an altercation with a co-worker sometime last week which led to her departure from the prime time entertainment programme.
“Last week at TVJ, I made an unfortunate decision and allowed my emotions to overpower my better judgement and reacted to a situation and got into an altercation with a fellow co-worker instead of walking away. It was an unfortunate choice that has caused me to lose a job that meant so much to me, but I have to take responsibility and learn from this and move forward,” a statement on Pepita’s Facebook fan page said last night.
The ‘chica’, whose real name is Pepita Little, went on to express sadness at leaving the widely viewed Saturday night entertainment programme for which she has been hosting for the past three years.
She also took the opportunity to show gratitude to her fans whose loyalty and support made her a household name on prime time television.
“To my Intense peeps. I’m writing this post with a very heavy heart because, sadly, I will no longer be the host of Intense. Over the course of the three years, I’ve worked with Intense, you all have shown me so much love and support and for that I thank you! I always felt welcomed everywhere I went – every party, every school,” continued Pepita in her post.
At the same time, her disbelief at leaving the programme was summed up as she posted, “I never dreamt of the day where I would not get to say, this is your Chica Pepita, walk good and live Intense”.
Meanwhile, fans of ‘the chica’ made good on providing encouragement for Pepita as soon as they heard the news.
Likewise,Romayne posted, “Wow ….. Intense meant Pepita Sanjay and Tippa Tip ….. now a missing link ……. sigh!!!!! This replacement has a big shoe to fill … the sky is the limit though …. use this as a push to something bigger for you …. keep sweet and natural with your abilities!!!!! I expect great things,”.
Fans also took to Twitter to share their views.
“No @PepLittle on Intense , no intense for me !!!!! … She IS intense !!!!!!”
When contacted, producer of Intense, Sharon Schroeter, was hesitant to provide details on the incident that cost Pepita her job. However, she remarked, “I’m disappointed at the decision … Pepita is an excellent presenter and I wish her all the best in the future.”
She also cleared the air as the question of a replacement was put to her.
“There’s no immediate replacement at this time,” Schroeter confirmed, but added that viewers should tune in on Saturday to see what happens.
All efforts to contact Pepita proved futile up to press time last night.
DSR’S ARTISTS PREPARE FOR STING
Downsound Record’s Artists prepare for STING
From Beenie Man to Twins of Twins, every artist who is booked for STING, however shabby we may think their performances are, set the stage for STING, months before.
At DSR, there are three artists in the line up this year, Specialist, Toya and a new artist that will be revealed right there on stage at STING! The atmosphere at DSR, has changed from, cool to hyperactively hectic. Manager Joe is on his P squared and Q’s as he seems more nervous than his artists. I decided to ask each of them how they felt about going into sting and this is what they had to say:-
First is Specialist, his songs are , Street Hustle, and Gallist to name a few
How do you feel about performing at sting this year?
Specialist: It feels great, I am young and just started in the business , Sting is a big thing I want to create a big impact.
What are you doing to create that impact?
Specialist: I am rehearsing very hard, everyday and you know how sting is, sometimes there is a clash so I am preparing for that too. Anything can happen.
Are you nervous?
Specialist: No man, Im no nervous at all.
I then spoke to Toya, and JMG knows she is
So Toya, since this is your second time at STING how is it for you?
Toya: STING is great I love performing at STING, it is not for the soft hearted at all. You have to be rough to perform there.
How are you preparing for it?
Toya: Well I have my outfit already, my shoes is here and my outfit is being made, I am practicing a lot also.
How does the outfit look?
Toya: I am going to be in spikes, my outfit will have it as well as my shoes, also Met, please tell the people that I have worked on my belly, I really want them to know I am listening to them so I have worked on it and now its very flat.
What do you think about STING?
Toya: Sting is good, I am not a stage show person but I like sting, the trick to it is that you have to make your performances good and short, I think when it is too long , people get bored and stop listening.
How long is your set?
Toya: My set is around seven to ten minutes
About how many songs?
Toya: I am doing about five songs and I really put work into my act this year. My performanc will be something to talk about (laughs)
STING!
STING
I sit here this morning, writing something I had no intention writing about, why? Because it no longer give me the high it gave back then. Has STING lost it’s STING?
Boxing night was always the night I asked my mother to migrate from my bedroom at the back of the house and sleep in her bed because it was at the front of the house and her window was wide enough for me not to miss anything.
The National Arena was where STING began with Ninja man , the killing Ninja who was expected to win every clash and he never failed to deliver. Right there on spot, he came in with his permit to bury, licensed to kill. Shabba Ranks, Supercat, Flourgon, Junior Demus , not only got killed but all were sent to musical Meadowrest.
The patrons coming home from STING always had something to talk about, even after seeing Ninja Man year after year. In 1990 , with the Ninja Man and Shabba Ranks clash, I really expected to see Shabba in tears, on youtube. It was personal, heart-felt and something to look forward to, as many of the patrons could not explain that it was Shabba’s ego that floated on the ground at STING, instead they said he wanted to cry , and why? Ninja man called him ”dodo pants”. All this I heard from Mommy’s window. STING was something I had to see, and I hated Ninja man because he killed my Dj at the time, Shabba Ranks. I could not stand Ninja Man just for that.
Technology has given me the opportunity to see all that I was too young to see and understand but even now , a brilliant 2011 and over twenty years, Jamaica has not produced such a talent. Ninja Man , manipulated, tenderized his opponent before putting them on his chopping block. They felt uneasy, defeated sometimes by his prancing around the stage, or by his mocking of them. A natural, because he seemed mightily unware of what he himself did.
It would be easy to dispute that talent needs just the right amount of narcissism, but it does. One has to believe and recognize who they are and never lose sight of that because in doing so the battle will be lost, without an actual war.
Has STING seasoned its STING? This was the show of shows, the root of the grass that many feared and had to stand a way off, looking. It was the ”poor” people’s Grand Gala. Trench Town, Down Kirk, Rema, Tivoli, Jungle and Back Bush all put aside any turf war they had, to go to the National Arena and watched these men, whose beings sang music. From their facial expressions to the way they moved, it was obvious they were there for more than just the hype. The crowd’s reaction was intoxicating, charismatic almost like a drug. Was this STING?
Yes, I am afraid, it was STING , and it has gone on way after Ninja Man stopped performing because it was really never about him. It was about the music, good music, talented music, intoxicating music ,charismatic music. Raw /natural talent in surplus. Something we don’t have now. Without this, STING will continue to UN-STING

SPEEDY TRIAL ACT FOR BUJU?
Will the speedy trial act help Buju?
BY KARYL WALKER Online news editor [email protected]
Tuesday, December 20, 2011
INCARCERATED Jamaican Reggae star Buju Banton could be freed due to a blunder on the part of the United States Government which failed to bring him to trial before 70 days — a right guaranteed under the Sixth Amendment.
The Speedy Trial Act refers to one of the rights guaranteed by the United States Constitution to defendants in criminal proceedings. The right to a speedy trial, guaranteed by the Sixth Amendment, is intended to make sure that defendants are not subjected to unreasonably lengthy incarceration prior to a fair trial.
In judging speedy trial claims, the US Supreme Court has developed a four-part test that considers the length of the delay, the reasons for the delay, the defendant’s assertion of his right to a speedy trial, and the prejudice to the defendant.
Violations of the act, such as where the state has failed to bring the case to trial for an ‘unreasonable’ length of time, may be a cause for dismissal of a criminal case.
Lawyers on behalf of the entertainer last week filed an appeal in a Georgia Court of Appeal citing the violation of the act and that Banton, whose real name is Mark Anthony Myrie, was not guilty of using the wires to facilitate a drug deal and did not conspire with others to distribute cocaine. The lawyers are also arguing that Myrie was entrapped because he did not have a predisposition to participate in a drug conspiracy.
In May last year, US Magistrate James Moody pushed back Banton’s trial date to September that same year without giving any specific reason for the postponement. It was the second time that Moody had pushed back the trial date as he had done so in April last year as well.
On both occasions Buju’s legal team voiced their objection and filed a motion which in part reads:
“Today, on May 28, 2010, the court has again continued the case another 70 days plus until the September trial calendar. No reason has been given for the continuance until September. No findings have been made. Mr Myrie remains incarcerated in the county jail. This is presenting an enormous burden on Mr Myrie, his witnesses, and his counsel. Through this pleading, we demand a speedy trial as required under the act and the constitution.”
Buju Banton was slapped with a 10-year sentence and is now languishing in the Federal Correctional Institution in Miami, Florida.
