COLD HEARTED

The bail application for two sisters, accused of defrauding their mother of thousands of dollars, was rejected on Friday when they appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court.

Charged with larceny from the person is Lisa and Maureen Clarke from Waterhouse, St Andrew. Both pleaded not guilty.

The court was told that sometime ago, the sisters stole an ATM card belonging to their mother, who is the complainant in the matter, though she did not appear in court.

Allegations are that they went to various ATM machines and withdrew cash, multiple times, totalling $690,000.

In seeking bail, their attorney Charles Williams, told the court that the women went to the police station by themselves while they were being sought.

Williams also said, “Your Honour, a mother’s love is unending”, to which Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey responded, “Oh yea … well, my love has limits!”

The court also heard that there exists video evidence of the two conducting transactions with the ATM card.

The senior RM expressed, “We have pictures of them. It’s like a virtual movie. The cameras in the ATM machine pick you up at all angles.”

Their bail applications were denied and both sisters were remanded in custody until January 23, when the matter will again be mentioned.
