A JAMAICAN IN THE MIX

FOX 10 News – Phoenix, AZ | KSAZ-TV

PHOENIX –
There was a big drug bust by MCSO Thursday night. They confiscated guns, thousands of pounds of marijuana, and nearly $350,000 in cash.

But this bust was big for another reason.

Thursday’s raid went down near 92nd Avenue and Encanto.

Several dozen deputies, including members of the swat team, took part — and that includes posse member and movie star Steven Seagal.

When a town car rolled up to the scene of the bust, our photographer did some investigating. He soon discovered that sheriff’s deputies had a little help from Hollywood.

Actor Steven Seagal got in on the action.

You’re used to seeing him in on the big screen in big blockbuster movies, but last night FOX 10 cameras caught Steven Seagal on the streets of Phoenix.

“As far as I know we got some bad guys, some cash and some dope,” said Seagal.

That’s all he said about last night’s bust — and here’s what MCSO says.

Sheriff’s deputies recovered 800 pounds of marijuana in a house near 89th Avenue and McDowell, along with $350,000 in cash hidden in several suitcases

Four people were taken into custody on drug related charges.

A semi automatic rifle and a semi automatic pistol were also seized.

The heavily armed Hollywood hero has taken part in previous Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office busts as a member of Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s posse.

In 2011, the honorary deputy helped bust a suspected cockfighting ring and filmed it for his reality show “Lawman” on A&E.

Suspect Jesus Llovera later sued the actor and MCSO, saying that the SWAT team and tanks were unnecessary, and that they were just used for the show.

Llovera also claimed that the bust led to the death of a German shepherd puppy.

Seagal and MCSO said it wasn’t part of an act. But was Seagal’s role in Thursday night’s bust a TV stunt?

He appeared to be wearing a camera on his head — but the sheriff’s office hasn’t returned our request for a comment on Seagal’s presence.

Sheriff Arpaio did tell us that he’ll be concentrating on street level dealers using a special unit of deputies and crime suppression operations.
