QUITO, Ecuador — Ecuador’s President Rafael Correa says he’s decided to boycott this month’s Summit of the Americas in Colombia because Cuba is not invited.
Correa made the announcement in a letter he sent Monday to the host president, Juan Manuel Santos.
Personal Post
He took a swipe at the United States, which had rejected Cuban attendance.
Correa called that veto intolerable, the United States “hegemonic” and the U.S. blockade of Cuba “inhumane.”
Correa is the only one of 34 invited presidents to turn the invitation down.
He had proposed last month a boycott of the April 14-15 summit by presidents of the leftist ALBA block the includes Venezuela, Bolivia and Nicaragua.
