Immaculate high student fatally shot allegedly by police

Controversy surrounds the fatal shooting of another civilian allegedly by the police on the evening of Tuesday March 20.

16 year old Vanessa Kirkland a student of the Immaculate Conception High School died after being shot during a police operation on Norman Lane off Spanish Town Road in Kingston.

Five others including four women were injured.

The shootings occurred about 9pm while persons were reportedly making their way to a birthday party in the area.

Reports are that Vanessa and other persons were travelling in a Suzuki Swift motor car when on reaching the event they were approached by a team of police officers.

A resident of the area says explosions were heard shortly after.

Checks revealed that Vanessa and the other passengers in the vehicle were shot.

The injuries sustained by the five others are not considered life threatening.

A team from the Independent Commission of Investigations, INDECOM was dispatched to the scene to conduct a probe on Tuesday night.
