Missing Miramar teen found safe a week after running away

MIRAMAR, Fla. — Authorities say a teenager who went missing after school last week has been found unharmed.

Miramar police say their investigation led them to an apartment complex early Wednesday, where they found 17-year-old Naketa Leiba.

The teen told Miramar police she ran away Feb. 1 and had been staying with a friend, according to the Sun Sentinel.

Police say she has been reunited with her parents. Her parents, friends and volunteers spent hours over the past week searching for the girl. She was found about three miles from her home.

The teen’s family called police when she didn’t arrive home from school. She had told her mother she was walking from the school bus that afternoon.

Police did not say why the girl ran away.
