Two men who, allegedly wanted to make a quick profit during the holy Easter season were not as lucky because they were arrested and charged with simple larceny on Friday.

Information reaching THE STAR is that, the men were arrested after they were caught trying to steal 12 tins of cheese from the John R. Wong Supermarket in New Kingston.

Allegations are that the accused, a 50-year-old farmer from a St Andrew address, and a 35-year-old chef from an East Kingston address were both spotted by a customer smuggling 12 tins of cheese valued at over $30,000.

According to police reports, one of the men was inside the supermarket’s storeroom throwing out the tins of cheese to the other man on the outside.

The cheese was allegedly being stored at the side of the building.

Further reports are that the man caught inside the storeroom was employed to the supermarket; however he had gained unauthorised access to that area as he was stationed in another department.

A witness told THE STAR that when the men were being arrested one of them allegedly said “A four, not 12 tin a cheese we did a tek.”

The amused witness added that, “Dem mussi did a stock up fi Easter.”

When contacted, the New Kingston Police confirmed the incident.

THE STAR understands that both men have been offered bail.
