Water Flowing Again in Gokwe, Zimbabwe, After ‘Mermaids’ Appeased
Political analyst Rejoice Ngwenya said reports from public officials as to mermaids were nonsensical and more than superstition reflected an attempt to find excuses for failing to carry out essential projects

A full supply of water is flowing to Gokwe, Midlands province, Zimbabwe, following the performance of traditional rites to appease and dispel mermaids from a reservoir for the town, belief in which led workers to refuse to work on pumping equipment there.
Water Minister Sam Sipepa Nkomo said four traditional chiefs slept at the Sengwa 2 Dam last week and performed a ceremony to appease the menacing spirits. The minister said water resumed pumping out of the dam following the ceremony.
He said Sengwa Dam was built because the other reservoir serving Gokwe is fed by boreholes and cannot fully meet the town’s capacity.
Sipepa Nkomo told VOA reporter Violet Gonda that engineers had resisted starting the Sengwa pumps due to fears of meeting with unfriendly mermaids.
“These people who are employed by the government, through the local authority – ZINWA, are black Africans and once something happens to one of them word spreads like wildfire and so they will hear about it. Sipepa said.
“If you try and force an African to try and do something that he knows will result in his injury or death he will not do it,” the minister said.
“I learned that it was not only about mermaids but about other unusual things that were happening there. Some of them said even some snakes were seen there and one worker decided to throw a stone at it and I am told he became mentally challenged.”
Analyst Rejoice Ngwenya said such reports from public officials were nonsensical.
“This is a whole lot of nonsense. You can’t be under-developing Africa and Zimbabwe talking about mermaids in the 21st century. This is a bunch of inefficient and ineffective public officials who have nothing better to do than chasing folk stories and pretending that they can’t do projects because of mermaids,” Ngwenya said.
Meanwhile the water minister said plans were underway to perform similar rituals at Osborne Dam in Manicaland province

Teen Who Butchered 9 Year Old Neighbor Wrote That Killing Felt AMAZING!!! In Her Journal Before Going To Church

A Missouri teenager who admitted stabbing, strangling and slitting the throat of a young neighbor girl wrote in her journal on the night of the killing that it was an “ahmazing” and “pretty enjoyable” experience — then headed off to church with a laugh.
The words written by Alyssa Bustamante were read aloud in court Monday as part of a sentencing hearing to determine whether she should get life in prison or something less for the October 2009 murder of her neighbor, 9-year-old Elizabeth Olten, in a small town west of Jefferson City.
Bustamante, 18, sat silently — occasionally glancing at those testifying about her, often looking down or to the side — as law enforcement officers, attorneys and forensics experts read aloud her inner most thoughts that she had recorded as a 15-year-old high school sophomore.
The most poignant part of Monday’s testimony came when a handwriting expert described how he was able to see through the blue ink that Bustamante had used in an attempt to cover up her original journal entry on the night of Elizabeth’s murder. He then read the entry aloud in court:
“I just f—— killed someone. I strangled them and slit their throat and stabbed them now they’re dead. I don’t know how to feel atm. It was ahmazing. As soon as you get over the “ohmygawd I can’t do this” feeling, it’s pretty enjoyable. I’m kinda nervous and shaky though right now. Kay, I gotta go to church now…lol.”
The journal entry was presented to the judge not long after Elizabeth’s mother and other relatives pleaded with Cole County Circuit Judge Pat Joyce to impose the maximum sentence. Bustamante pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and armed criminal action last month and faces at most a sentence of life in prison with a chance for parole. The least she could get is 10 years

No feud with Bounty… Says Gyptian
Curtis Campbell, STAR Writer
(l-r) Gyptian, Bounty Killer – File
Dancehall/Reggae artiste Gyptian has distanced himself from allegations that he and fellow dancehall artiste Bounty Killer were involved in a squabble at a popular St Andrew nightclub recently.
Allegations were that Gyptian had been dating Bounty Killer’s ex-girlfriend and the artistes had a squabble over the matter.
However, Gyptian denies that any such event occurred.
“Dat is rubbish, mi neva see dem man deh a Fiction, a waste a time, mi not even a follow dat up,” Gyptian said.
According to Gyptian, there is no bad blood between himself and Bounty Killer and the allegations are shocking.
“Mi and Bounty good, Bounty a di general and nothing cyah guh wrong. Mi surprise, mi nuh know what kinda controversy dat and how it come about,” he continued.
“Dem a sey Bounty woman live wid mi, nuh body nuh live wid mi, all dat a rubbish. It is like when yu hear a man sey man can fly and yu know sey dat impossible. A mussi because wi a artiste dem want something fi sey, mi nuh deh wid none a Bounty woman, dem wicked eeh,” Gyptian said in a surprised tone.
According to Gyptian, he is not feeding into the controversy, he is more concerned about his new projects.
“Mi hear bout deh little thing deh, but mi not even a follow dat up, mi a work on a new album to be released summer and a new single for Hot Head Records name It’s You,” he concluded.
Bounty Killer’s camp also strongly denied the allegations also citing that Bounty Killer was on a positive path.
Alliance Next Generation manager, Cross Cris, spoke to The STAR on behalf of Bounty Killer, who did not want to comment on the matter.
According to Cross Cris, Bounty Killer has no time to dwell on negative issues and would not comment on such.
“Killer is not into anything negative, he just recorded positive songs like Thine Will Be Done and Be On The Alert with Wayne Marshall, we are not dwelling on negative it is all about a positive image for 2012. Some people are just creating mischief with something they know nothing about,” Cross Cris said.
Gyptian is set to leave the island for performances in Haiti and California in coming weeks, and his manager Ivor Ruddock also aimed to clear the air on the allegations.
“Wey Gyptian duh is music, we don’t get mix up with negative energy, all the Internet do is spread rumour, but we are just keeping it positive and continue to make good songs that people love and enjoy,” he concluded.
