TEACHER STILL SUFFERING FROM KNIFE ATTACK
BB Coke teacher still suffers from knife attack

CONSTRUCTION teacher at the BB Coke High Schoool in Junction, St Elizabeth, Garfield Dennis, has still not recovered from a near-death experience that he had when he was stabbed in the back with a knife by a male student three years ago.
Dennis told the Jamaica Observer that he had reprimanded the teenage student who had approached him in a menacing manner and was behaving rudely when the incident occurred.
“On May 13, 2010 I was talking to some of my female colleagues when the boy came up to me and said, ‘Dutty bwoy dutty chi beard’. I got up and approached him. I touched him in his forehead and told him we were not companions and walked away. The boy stabbed me in the back and ran off,” Dennis told the Sunday Observer.
When he was taken to a doctor in the nearby town square, Dennis was diagnosed with internal bleeding and was rushed to a hospital after one of his lungs almost collapsed. He spent a week in hospital and was given 43 days’ sick leave by a doctor.
The boy went on the run for over two years before he was eventually held, charged, convicted and sentenced to a year in prison after pleading guilty to a charge of unlawful wounding in the Black River Resident Magistrate’s Court in July 2012.
The teenager spent a total of eight months locked up before he was released.
Soon after the attacker was released, reports emerged that he was a suspect in the murder of a schoolgirl in the parish.
What was shocking to Dennis was that even though he was brutally attacked and his livelihood seriously affected, none of the teenager’s relatives made contact with him until he was caught by the police two years after.
“It was only then that his mother came to me and wanted to ask me to drop the charges. I told her it was in the hands of the police and there was nothing I could do,” he said.
But his injury was just the beginning of his woes, as, apart from teaching construction, Dennis had his own business and because he was out of commission for more than a month, he was unable to work and was forced to repay thousands of dollars he had accepted as deposits from his clients.
His medical bills had mounted and, strapped for cash, he was forced to borrow a huge sum from a credit union. He is still servicing that loan by way of salary deductions.
“My monthly take-home pay is $7,600,” he said.
Teachers have no insurance against injuries received from students while on the job.
Dennis has also complained that he has received no assistance from the Eduction Ministry despite communicating through letters of his plight. He said that money was deducted from his salary by the ministry who informed him that his sick leave was too lengthy.
“The ministry drew money from my salary for three days citing the fact that my sick leave was too long and it shoudn’t have been longer than 40 days. For months I could not work and I had to find money to pay back my clients,” he said.
“I have called the ministry time and time again. They have made me promises. I got a letter from them on April 8 saying they will be writing the Attorney General to seek advice,” he said.

BOMBERS LINK TO MOM
WASHINGTON — Russian authorities secretly recorded a telephone conversation in 2011 in which one of the Boston bombing suspects vaguely discussed jihad with his mother, officials said Saturday, days after the U.S. government finally received details about the call.
In another conversation, the mother of now-dead bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev was recorded talking to someone in southern Russia who is under FBI investigation in an unrelated case, officials said.
The conversations are significant because, had they been revealed earlier, they might have been enough evidence for the FBI to initiate a more thorough investigation of the Tsarnaev family.
As it was, Russian authorities told the FBI only that they had concerns that Tamerlan and his mother were religious extremists. With no additional information, the FBI conducted a limited inquiry and closed the case in June 2011.
Two years later, authorities say Tamerlan and his brother, Dzhohkar, detonated two homemade bombs near the finish line of the Boston Marathon, killing three and injuring more than 260. Tamerlan was killed in a police shootout and Dzhohkar is under arrest.
In the past week, Russian authorities turned over to the United States information it had on Tamerlan and his mother, Zubeidat Tsarnaeva. The Tsarnaevs are ethnic Chechens who emigrated from southern Russia to the Boston area over the past 11 years.
Even had the FBI received the information from the Russian wiretaps earlier, it’s not clear that the government could have prevented the attack.
In early 2011, the Russian FSB internal security service intercepted a conversation between Tamerlan and his mother vaguely discussing jihad, according to U.S. officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the investigation with reporters.
The two discussed the possibility of Tamerlan going to Palestine, but he told his mother he didn’t speak the language there, according to the officials, who reviewed the information Russia shared with the U.S.
In a second call, Zubeidat Tsarnaeva spoke with a man in the Caucasus region of Russia who was under FBI investigation. Jacqueline Maguire, a spokeswoman for the FBI’s Washington Field Office, where that investigation was based, declined to comment.
There was no information in the conversation that suggested a plot inside the United States, officials said.
It was not immediately clear why Russian authorities didn’t share more information at the time. It is not unusual for countries, including the U.S., to be cagey with foreign authorities about what intelligence is being collected.
Nobody was available to discuss the matter early Sunday at FSB offices in Moscow.
Jim Treacy, the FBI’s legal attache in Moscow between 2007 and 2009, said the Russians long asked for U.S. assistance regarding Chechen activity in the United States that might be related to terrorism.
“On any given day, you can get some very good cooperation,” Treacy said. “The next you might find yourself totally shut out.”
Zubeidat Tsarnaeva has denied that she or her sons were involved in terrorism. She has said she believed her sons have been framed by U.S. authorities.
But Ruslan Tsarni, an uncle of the Tsarnaev brothers and Zubeidat’s former brother-in-law, said Saturday he believes the mother had a “big-time influence” as her older son increasingly embraced his Muslim faith and decided to quit boxing and school.
After receiving the narrow tip from Russia in March 2011, the FBI opened a preliminary investigation into Tamerlan and his mother. But the scope was extremely limited under the FBI’s internal procedures.
After a few months, they found no evidence Tamerlan or his mother were involved in terrorism.
The FBI asked Russia for more information. After hearing nothing, it closed the case in June 2011.
In the fall of 2011, the FSB contacted the CIA with the same information. Again the FBI asked Russia for more details and never heard back.
At that time, however, the CIA asked that Tamerlan’s and his mother’s name be entered into a massive U.S. terrorism database.
The CIA declined to comment Saturday.
Authorities have said they’ve seen no connection between the brothers and a foreign terrorist group. Dzhohkar told FBI interrogators that he and his brother were angry over wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and the deaths of Muslim civilians there.
Family members have said Tamerlan was religiously apathetic until 2008 or 2009, when he met a conservative Muslim convert known only to the family as Misha. Misha, they said, steered Tamerlan toward a stricter version of Islam.
Two U.S. officials say investigators believe they have identified Misha. While it was not clear whether the FBI had spoken to him, the officials said they have not found a connection between Misha and the Boston attack or terrorism in general.

CONGRATULATIONS MS KITTY
The intelligent and motivating Khadine ”Ms Kitty” Hylton, I must say has slowly earned my respect as a Jamaican woman with a basket full of attitudes our diaspora would benefit from if emulated.
When I first heard about Ms. Kitty and her fluffy diva parade, I shrugged it off because in my mind it was not something to be celebrated. Our eating habits as Jamaicans has left most of our families ravaged by stroke, hypertension and diabetes. Fluffy to me, was embracing all of this.
After being included in a post here on JMG,where she had criticised a young woman for getting pregnant for an entertainer. I was livid , because to me she had no idea where these young girls were coming from and the last thing they needed was another female not being on their team.A friend of mine reached out to me , telling me how this Ms Kitty was teased relentlessly in High School about her nose.I chuckled but I thought to myself how much the personality that should exude an individual who has suffered such a fate was not the one that came from this woman. She was confident despite being a victim of bullying. Her confidence was mind boggling to me, and yes she was fat and seemed to wear many outfits that are considered not to be for a woman of her size but the confidence to get into them is bigger than any negative though that should or would come to mind when seeing her in them. Confidence is sexy, it motivates ambition and propels destiny! Look your best however you are, because whatever you or the the world thinks of your appearance, you are fearfully and wonderfully made.
The reason I started JMG, was to help fallen young women see that they were better than the life they choose , just because they are wonderfully made. This is what Ms Kitty seems to be driving at by celebrating fluffy. At the time I did not see this however, she has matured a lot from her earlier years and it is quite motivating to see and hear her speak. It is impressive to see her strides, as a Jamaican woman chuck full of ambition.
After reading about her RJR debacle, I stopped to think , and at first I thought that she in doing two radio programs was biting off more than she could chew and was being greedy. After thinking deeper, I thought about RJR, the radio programs, Magnum King & Queen and all the other appearances I had seen her at hosting. It was ambition and not greed. The ambition and drive many Jamaicans need to uplift themselves from the shackles of poverty. I remained silent and kept my thoughts to myself until a friend of mine showed me a link a song collaborated with Eve. It was then I realised I really had to congratulate this woman , because she has been making strides, working her ass off, something our diaspora need to get back into doing. Working hard and stop hardly working. Work your tail off so that when you get old your cake would be just cool for eating and not just mixed for baking.

AFRICANS DYING FROM CHINESE FAKE MEDICINES
Africans Dying From Fake Chinese Medicines
By David Kurima
It has just emerged that countless people across the African continent have been victims of fake Asian medicines that have backfired and claimed their lives. The medicines and pills from Asian countries such as China and India being dumped in Africa for profit are killing people by the day, investigative studies have revealed.
The medications meant to save lives arrives on cargo trucks and in suitcases, crossing borders to be sold in pharmacies, shops and hospitals without proper medical compliance procedures let alone proper checks.
At present some malaria pills have been identified to be counterfeit and they carry a placebo effect through raising false hopes as the sick take them expecting to be healed.
A recent study funded by the Wellcome Trust has urged public authorities to take immediate action help tackle one of the world’s deadliest diseases. Even health professionals are routinely fooled, reports the UK Guardian paper.
malaria pills
“I have taken them myself,” said Dr Mechtlida Luhaga, who has been both doctor and patient in Africa’s long battle against malaria. “I took Alu and nothing happened. I had another blood test to recheck and still had the same parasites. The drugs were fake.”
In 2001, police in Guangzhou, China, arrested Nigerian and Chinese men for production of counterfeits of the anti-malarial halofantrine and production facilities for packaging materials for counterfeit anti-malarials have been seized in Nigeria.
Another study conducted in 2009 by International Policy Network found approximately 450,000 people died annually from fake malaria treatments, most of which originated from China and India.
It is reported that in cities and villages across Tanzania and Uganda – the countries with the highest number of malaria cases in the world – everyone knows about fake and substandard drugs.
Moses Moyo-Ndlela Comments:
At times the issue of fake or expired drugs being dumped into Africa has something to do with corruption by our leaders, the customs personnel, doctors or the police. Africa at times is the dump yard or the hub for experimenting with some drugs being manufactured out there in the world. Do not be surprised that even HIV/AIDS or cancer drugs are shipped into the susceptible African states for testing and once they are proven to work, they are then tuned into the developed world for use. Africans have remained pigeons in lots of experiments for a long time in history. Many of these countries do it out of corruption and they exploit the poverty and ignorance in some parts of our continent as they make money through evil ways. At times, our corrupt leaders sign big contracts to import fake drugs in exchange for big cuts. We need to prevent such abuse from happening in Africa. The Africa Union and other regional zones should team up and eliminate this modern day abuse of Africa. The corrupt people letting in such dangerous drugs that could be fake or imitates, should be jailed without trial to send a clear message to anybody trying to risk the African life. If we team up together and defend our own people, such abuse can be contained as we uphold and preserve our dignity as human beings. Being black should not make us targets in this day and age.
WTF AFRICA- WIFE CAUGHT PASTOR HUSBAND DOING IT!
I caught my pastor husband having S*X with church member
A 35-year-old Pastor, Segun Fasina, on Monday pleaded with an Orile-Agege Customary Court in Lagos, to dissolve his four-year-old marriage over wife’s alleged wayward life. But his wife shot back in court saying the pastor was adulterous and that she once caught him having séx with a church member on their matrimonial bed. Mr. Fasina, of No. 4, Moses St., Alagba, Orile-Agege had told the court that his wife, Abosede, had lost her sense of dignity, and was now smoking and consuming alcohol. The pastor also said that his wife was a gossip and troublesome. “My wife, Abosede, possesses all the bad habits one can think of. She was accused of stealing a phone in our house.“I believed she actually stole it because of her behaviour. She goes to other co-tenants’ apartments to gossip. And whenever there is any fight in the house, my wife’s name is always mentioned.“As a pastor, I have prayed for her deliverance from the evil acts but my effort was in vain,” he said. “Since the marriage is childless, we owe ourselves nothing. So, I want the court to dissolve the union.” But, Abosede, 30, a house wife, denied the allegations.“My husband is adulterous. He counsels his church members at home, and I discovered that most of them are ladies. “He was inside the room counselling a woman when I dashed in.“To my surprise, my husband and the woman were both naked in our bed. My husband beat me and threw me out of the house.“When I reported the case to his father, the man said, I should not disturb his son. I am not a drunk. “My husband saw me with alcohol that was meant to cleanse my stomach, so that I can get pregnant,” she said. She told the court that despite his adulterous lifestyle, she was still in love with him.The Court President, Joseph Adewusi, told the couple to maintain the peace and adjourned the case till May 10 for judgment.
