JLP still investigating claims it received funds from failed David Smith led ponzi scheme, Olint.

Leader of the Jamaica Labour Party, JLP, Andrew Holness, says the party is still conducting internal reviews on claims that the party had received financial donations from the David Smith led-Ponzi scheme OLINT leading up to the 2007 General Elections.

　
A Confiscation Order issued by the Supreme Court in the Turks and Caicos Island in May suggested that theJLP got a donation of 5 million US dollars but the party said it would examine the claim before making any comments.

　
In June, JLP General secretary, Aundre Franklin, in statement said the Party never denied that its candidates received donations.

　
He stated that the Party cannot substantiate the amount of claims however it continued to review its financial records to ascertain whether or not OLINT funds were given directly to the JLP and the amounts.

　
Mr. Franklin had said the after a July meeting of the Party’s Central Executive a fulsome statement on the matter would have been issued.

　
Over three months later, that statement has still not been issued and when the matter was put to Mr. Holness yesterday, he stated that the reviews a re ongoing.

　
“Our investigations are ongoing. You would recognise that the persons who would have received funds are not all now candidates and in terms of records, they would have to be doing their own investigations and making their requests and the access to those records can take some time. The report that I have and i could give now is that our investigations continue.” said Holness

The People’s National Party, PNP, which was also identified as a recipient of Olint funds had acknowledged receiving funds.

A statement issued by PNP Chairman Robert Pickersgill stated that internal investigation has established that the sum of1 million US dollars was received in an account on its behalf and spent in the Party’s 2007 election campaign.

David Smith was sentenced to 30 years in prison by the United States District Court in Orlando, Florida last August.

He was accused of defrauding thousands of customers of more than 220 million US dollars and was convicted after pleading guilty to 18 counts of money laundering, four counts of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering.

Cops kill alleged gunmen in Central Village

Two alleged gunmen were fatally shot during a reported confrontation with the police in St. Catherine about 3.00 am Thursday morning.

RJR News understands that two guns were seized in the incident.

The men, whose identities were not revealed, are said to be on the St. Catherine South Police Wanted List.

A source told RJR News that the police were on patrol on Big Lane in Central Village when they were allegedly fired on by the men.

The police returned the fire and the men were shot and taken to hospital where they were pronounced dead.

However, callers to the RJR News Centre claim the men were not involved in any shooting when they were killed.

This is the story the Jamaican police have put out after the murder of Mickian Stewart ( 25) aka Prong or Alex and Lorenzo Stewart (Alex’s older brother)27

In Actuality the police came at 3 am in the morning to murder the youths. The day started in the afternoon when police spotted the brothers in their yard smoking. They did not engage the men at all. The report said the men were wanted, so if they were wanted why weren’t they arrested at that point of time? 3 am that following morning, the police decided to come back with a army of 40 other officers, dressed in all black and masks. They surrounded the house and stood outside for about two hours, knocking on the window before identifying themselves as police to the mother of the two brothers. Having no suspicion of foul play, the mother unlocked the grill, allowing the officers to enter. As soon as they entered they tossed the mother aside by her neck and ran in. They entered with firearms in hand, the brothers were both in separate rooms asleep, they were woken by the commotion, THEY SURRENDERED. Unarmed , the police offered no time for the brothers to plead their c ase they opened fire on the brothers. Killing Lorenzo on the spot with multiple shots in the chest and side and injuring Mickian (Alex). Upon surveying their kills the police found that Mickian was still alive. The mother said the police past the remake ”Boy ya nuh dead” and prolong with their shooting, finishing Mickian off with multiple gun shots, with the last one to the head. He died on the spot. both brothers died on the scene, no hospital. Due to the fact that the police men and women committed murdered, the officers quickly tossed the bodies of Mickian and his brother in a open back van (which neighbors said sounded like breadfruit dropping off a tree) to avoid being seen by the public. After the killing, the police blocked off the crime scene with no bodies insight, locking the mother and brothers out of their own house.

Now hours later the police have released this report about having a shoot out and finding guns, when in actuality they came while the victims were in deep sleep.

How you tell that this report is false, how can you have a shoot out in your boxers locked up house? How could the police stumble on these ”gunmen” but they were killed in their bed yet again?

This is not the first instance of police corruption and wrongful death in Jamaica but if we don’t speak out now it wont be the last.

Please, help me publish my story,so that I can get pieces of advice from readers because I don’t know what to do. My girlfriend who I gave all my love and trust betrayed me. I don’t know how if I can ever trust her again.

I met my girlfriend, Tayo, when I was in the secondary school, Senior Secondary School (2) to be precise and at that time we were in the same class. She was a very reserved girl and that was probably one of the things that attracted me to her. We used to solve our Mathematical problems together, because I was really good in calculation. We became friends and since then we have been inseparable. Everyone in the school knew about our relationship and most of our friends envied us.

I was so fond of Tayo and vice versa and this helped us a great deal. I loved and trusted her so much that I thought I couldn’t live without her.

Then, we introduced ourselves to our parents. In essence, our families also knew everything about our relationship right from the onset.

When we finished secondary school education and we sat for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME), we were unable to get admission into the same university.  I got admitted into the school of my first choice, while she got admitted into her second choice. This was how we became separated by destiny; but this did not end our relationship. In fact, our affection became stronger and a weekend would not pass without her visiting me in school.

I never for once doubted her love and sincerity during our university days and I am sure she never did too. Everything went well as we planned until she graduated.

Tayo, graduated before me, because she went  in for a four-year-course. After she graduated, our plan was that she would go for youth service while I continued with schooling.

Her youth service year went smoothly, and there was no cause for alarm; immediately after, she got a job, but away from home where she did her youth service. She decided to rent an apartment and continued with her job. I was happy because things were falling into places as we planned. By this time, I was almost rounding-off my project in my sixth year.

After I graduated, I also went for the youth service and came back to start my Masters degree because I was not lucky to get a job immediately like she did.

I intentionally started my Masters degree at the university in the town where she lived and worked so that we would be close to each other. I went to her place every weekend and every time I went we always had sex. I guess this was the mistake we made or the fact that we had unprotected sex, because, we had made up our minds not to have sex after our first experience during one of her visits to my school when we were both   undergraduates.But because of human nature, we couldn’t stop, as we had sex frequently and, she became pregnant.

I was shocked at this news because I sometimes  used condom; though not always. I was confused and wondered what I would do in this situation. I was not ready for marriage, I had no job yet; we had no choice, but to opt for an abortion. She went through this sadly and I really felt sorry for her.

After this experience, I strictly warned Tayo, that we should be more careful so that this won’t happen again and she agreed. I hardly knew that she had a plan to pull me down. I paid her a visit on one occasion and we had sex unprotected, we did not use condom. Immediately, I realised this, I decided not to ejaculate, I planned to withdraw, but I was surprised when Tayo held me back until I released inside her.

I did not know why she did this until when she confessed later that she wanted to know if she was capable of getting pregnant again after the first abortion. I was so angry with her that I did not visit her for weeks. Before I left her that day, I however warned her never to touch or abort the baby if she became pregnant by her last action. I equally told her that she would deliver the baby if she became pregnant.

I visited Tayo two months after this day and I discovered she actually became pregnant but decided to terminate the pregnancy without telling me and she became seriously ill afterwards. I met her bleeding and vomiting. I couldn’t believe my ears when she told me what she did. She aborted our baby again!

I made up my mind about her there and then! I couldn’t continue with our relationship. But first, I made sure I took her for proper treatment and after she was stable, I packed all my belongings that were in her place and left, even though we had a plan to have our formal introduction before the end of the year.

She had not given me a minute of rest since the day I left her place with all my things. She had called several times asking to know where I was, but I did not tell her. The worst thing now is that her parents are aware that I don’t want to continue with our relationship and they are equally pleading that I should come and see them. I am not sure Tayo told them what happened. I don’t want to be the one to tell them.

They are pleading that I should take her back. My problem is that I no longer trust her. Please, advise me on what to do.

Obama re-election protest escalates at Univ. of Mississippi; racial slurs, 2 arrests reported

JACKSON, Miss. — A protest at the University of Mississippi against the re-election of President Barack Obama grew into crowd of about 400 people with shouted racial slurs as rumors of a riot spread on social media. Two people were arrested on minor charges.

The university said in a statement Wednesday that the gathering at the student union began late Tuesday night with about 30 to 40 students, but grew within 20 minutes as word spread. Some students chanted political slogans while others used derogatory racial statements and profanity, the statement said.

The incident comes just after the 50th anniversary of violent rioting that greeted the forced integration of Ole Miss with the enrollment of its first black student, James Meredith.

Ole Miss Chancellor Dan Jones promised an investigation and said “all of us are ashamed of the few students who have negatively affected the reputations of each of us and of our university.”

On Wednesday night, about 700 people held up candles and called for racial harmony outside the administrative building at the university in Oxford, countering Tuesday’s protest over Obama’s re-election.

Police were initially alerted to Tuesday’s uproar by people who saw Twitter posts about it. The students were told to leave, but about 100 came back later. One person was charged with public intoxication and another with failure to comply with police orders. There were no reports of injuries or property damage.

Rumors about the situation were fueled on Twitter after the university’s student journalists posted a video referring to the gathering as “riots.” The student newspaper posted a video of the crowd, but much of what the students said in it is unintelligible other than the “Hotty Toddy” cheer, which is common at football games and other school gatherings.

One picture that spread rapidly on social media shows people burning an Obama campaign sign, but the university hasn’t confirmed that the picture was taken on campus. The chancellor said some photos shared on social media showed things that were not seen by police on campus, but the reports of uncivil language and racial slurs appeared to be accurate.

Some students and teachers used social media to condemn the conflict.

Ellen Meacham, an Ole Miss journalism instructor, posted on Facebook that “anyone who calls that a riot has never read or heard anything about 1962.”

She was referring to when Meredith became the first black student to enroll at the university on Oct. 1, 1962. Federal authorities deployed more than 3,000 soldiers and more than 500 law enforcement officers to Oxford during the integration. An angry mob started an uprising that killed two white men. More than 200 people were injured. Ole Miss sponsored lectures and other events this year to commemorate the 50th anniversary.

“Now, 50 years later, about 2 percent of the overall student body goes out to protest when their guy doesn’t win the presidency and a portion of that small percentage displays the ugly strain that still infects too many in our student body,” Meacham wrote.

In a state with a 37 percent African-American population, Ole Miss now has a black enrollment of about 16.6 percent. The current student body president, Kim Dandridge, is the fourth black person elected to the post.

Jones said the campus was back to normal Wednesday.

The university was planning an event for Wednesday evening called the “We are One Mississippi Candlelight Walk” to condemn the protest, according to Thomas J. “Sparky” Reardon, vice chancellor for student affairs.

There was drama in Mhondoro at a funeral in Chivero area when mourners took to their heels after the corpse opened its eyes during the body viewing session.

The spine-chilling incident reportedly took place last week in Headman Koroka’s kraal, at the funeral of Tawanda Koroka (39). The deceased reportedly pulled a shocker when he suddenly opened his eyes whilst his lifeless body was lying in coffin during body viewing session. However, friends and relatives who were queuing to pay their final tribute to their departed fellow could not stand the ‘miracle’ and ran for dear life. One of the mourners was heard shouting “Tawanda amuka! (uTawanda sevukile) (Tawanda has resurrected)”.

In a matter of microseconds, fear had engulfed the entire homestead and there was stampede by the door as mourners jostled to take cover. During the chaos some people even pushed and fell on top of the deceased as the room had suddenly become too scary to accommodate anyone. Women were also heard crying and screaming for help.

Ishmael Koroka (57), father to the deceased, confirmed that his dead son’s eyes opened during body viewing session – an incident that shocked many villagers in Mhondoro.

“My son died last week after succumbing to sickness that emanated from his right hand. Panguva yekuwonekedzana naye ndipo paakasvinura, kuita semupenyu ndokuzobwaira maziso (Ngesikhathi sokuvalelisana laye yikho avulakhona amehlo, wenza njengomuntu ophilayo, wacwayiza). He opened his eyes for the whole day. On the day that he mate his fate I had accompanied him to and from the Marisamhuka clinic,” he said.

He added that Twanda died in his presence after he (the father) had gone to spend a night at his son’s place. The deceased’s wife was said to be in Norton and Tawanda was left to look after their little child in Mhondoro.

“Upon realising that Tawanda had opened his eyes, mourners got shocked and stormed the door to take cover. There was a heated argument later on as some family members suggested that he should not be buried anymore since he had ‘risen’. Others said the incident didn’t matter, and should not affect the burial proceedings,” said the deceased’s father.

According to the Shona tradition, after he died, the body was cleaned and dressed for burial and the deceased’s eyes were closed throughout out the process. He is said to have opened his eyes at around 12 midday during body viewing session, just before burial.

Tawanda’s mother, Susan Koroka (58) also confirmed the incident. “Since I was crying I noticed the mishap but I couldn’t understand what it meant,” she said.

Tawanda’s lifeless body was left alone in the house after fear stole mourners’ hearts. At that time, close family members reportedly went to consult a traditional healer who explained the meaning of the queer mishap.

“We were informed that indeed the deceased had opened his eyes. This was because he was bitter that his wife had secured a job in Norton, a development that made him live like a widower. We were advised on what to do and we did just that after which he then closed his eyes. I personally witnessed everything as the father of the deceased,” said Tawanda’s father.

He said according to the African tradition, a dead person communicates with people in various ways.

“By merely opening his eyes, it really meant something, and we were told the meaning. Vamwe vanomira mimvuri, kukurumbidza kunhuwa, kushama muromo, kuzvimba kwemitumbi (Abanye baba yizithunzi, bekhuphe iphunga masinyazana, ukuvuvuka kwesisu), and there are other different ways that the deceased can employ to communicate with us,” he added.
