JMG INTERVIEWS SPECIALIST
JMG Interviews SPECIALIST
I interviewed DownSound recording artist, Specialist before and after STING and here is what he had to say on both occasions:-
What is your real name?
Specialist: Orane Wilson
How did you come up with the name Specialist?
Specialist: I got the name from my friends in High School, I have had it from the 7th grade , we would dj on at lunch time and we came up with the name.
How old are you?
Specialist: Twenty-one
How long have you been singing?
Specialist: I have been writing and singing music since I was fourteen
Why music though?
Specialist: I like to write and with music I am able to write on social happenings and lifestyle.
Who encouraged you or told you that you were good at it?
Specialist: My friends, my family encouraged me a lot, even at the age of seventeen I performed at the West Kingston Jamboree and the crowd gave me a good reception, that is what pushed me to continue.
Which artists’ work do you admire?
Specialist: Vybz kartel, Assassin, Bounty Killer and Beenie Man, but now I am more into Assassin and I-Octane because they tend to try to teach ghetto people in their music.
What do you admire about the music business and what would you say is its downside?
Specialist: I feel if you love music and if you work hard enough, it pays off. The downside I would say is the influence, when I just started singing I was into a lot of gun songs but since I have realized that the music does influence the people I have changed my songs. It is hard to accept that the music influences the people but it does and we have to take responsibility.
Do you write all of your music really and how do you feel about getting this far?
Specialist : Yes man everything is written by me remember I have been writing for a long time. I entered Magnum Kings and Queens and since then everything has been great, I feel good about getting this far.
How is your family doing in regards to your success?
Specialist: They are very happy. I am from a fairly large family with five brothers and sisters. I can say our lives were very hard sometimes but since I have been able to perform I have been able to help them a little bit. Things have not been as bad as they were and life is easier now.
Well you know in the business there are a lot of groupies, how have women changed towards you and do you have a girlfriend?
Specialist: I have a girlfriend, we have been together for eighteen months, other girls try to talk to me but I hold a meds because I know what they are after and what they are about. I am focused on writing and getting better at my work.
How far would you like your career to go ?
Specialist: I would like for it to go as far as possible, MTV, Billboards, B.E.T, the sky is the limit.
You are Signed under DownSound Force right, how did you get in and how do you feel about working with DownSound?
Specialist: I was approached by Skatta Burrell , a producer from Downsound, after Magnum Kings and Queens, he introduced me to Joe , that is how it started. I love working for DownSound because they are the ones who pushed my music and I am grateful for that.
How do feel about Joe being your manager?
Specialist: I feel great and thankful to have a manager like him that is faithful and believes in my career
You did STING a few weeks ago, how do you feel about the experience and the clash?
Specialist: It was my first time at STING , the experience was good . I feel happy I won the clash because the public got to see the type of artist I am. Hurricane was going around saying that he was a better artist than me because he won the competition so I got a chance to prove that I am the better artist and he was not one, he is more of a comedian.
This is what started the feud?
Specialist: Yes, it is funny, he won a million dollars and I did not have a problem with that, but because my song ‘’Street Hustle’’ was doing well, he started talking all kinds of things. I just think because I was the runner up and he was the winner he thought he would be doing better than me and he isn’t. That is the proble
While I watched the clash, I got scared because I thought it was going to get physical, was it?
Specialist: No it was not, I am a very calm person, I wasn’t thinking about that part, the only problem I had was the way he kept coming close to me. I did not like that.
What was the reaction of your friends and family after the clash?
Specialist: They were not surprised, before the clash my mother warned me to behave before I went because they know how I am sometimes with the lyrics so I toned it down a lot but from High School I never lost a clash. They know that. My management from DownSound was happy they told me that my work has improved. Everyone has been happy for me.
During the clash you opponent used the word ‘’batteyman’ , for me it was offensive because it seems as if for every clash someone latches onto the word and the other person feels intimidated by it so do you think they should ban the word from STING?
Specialist:People will always say the worst things so I did not take it personal when the fans go for you that doesn’t matter so it didn’t matter to me because my family and friends know I am not gay so it didn’t affect me…the word being banned would be left to up the promoter ,no one really takes it personal, it doesn’t affect me and the fans know he was only talking and not in my class.
Has life changed after STING?
Specialist: Well winning the clash was a good start to the new year I plan on working harder DownSound plans to work hard this year also so you will see a lot more work from us.

MEMPHIS, TN –
(WMC-TV) – A Memphis mother was arrested Sunday after police said she stole one of their squad cars.
Police have been looking for the woman after she allegedly helped her daughter escape from the custody of the state.
After a brief chase with officers, the stolen vehicle was located in the 3000 block of Macon.
The chase began after authorities received a suspicious person call in the area of Jackson and Trezevant. Officers were notified that two women, a mother and daughter, named in a City Watch issued on January 5 were walking in the area.
“I ain’t never seen nothing like this before,” said witness Leon Collins. “On TV, but not in person like I did just then.”
Investigators said the mother reportedly helped her daughter escape from DCS custody.
When officers got to the scene Sunday, the 12-year-old girl ran from officers. The girl’s mother then reportedly got into one of the officer’s car and drove off. The car was recovered a short time later.
“We seen her jump out with some bags in her hand, so we knew it wasn’t the police,” said witness LaKetra Paige. “We made a U-turn, came back, and she jumped out the car.”
Both the mother and daughter were in police custody Sunday night.
A Memphis police spokesperson said the investigation is ongoing.
