Massive fire in Beverly Hills
Thursday, April 18, 2013
SECTIONS of a six-bedroom house in upscale Beverly Hills in Kingston was yesterday destroyed by a massive afternoon blaze.
The fire, which reportedly started after 1:00 pm, destroyed the first floor of the large building on Shenstone Drive.

However, quick response from two fire units from York Park and another from Rollington Town fire stations prevented the fire from spreading to the three bedrooms on the ground floor.
“No one was at home but neighbours saw the fire and alerted us to it about 1:30 pm and we were able to save three rooms on the ground floor,” said district officer Telford Albert of Rollington Town Fire Station.
“We don’t know the cause of the fire as yet nor the estimate of the damage, but we are told that this property was valued at $40 million at one point…,” Talbert added.
The owner of the house, who resides there with her teenage daughter and a friend, had just left the scene when the Jamaica Observer arrived but her brother, Chris Fennell, said she was coping well despite the shock.
Member of Parliament for Eastern St Andrew Andre Hylton went to the scene to offer moral support.
“I am going to talk to the lady to see if there is anything that the State and the councillor can provide, such as any basic necessities that she may need at this time to keep her going. It is a traumatic experience for any person to have their home destroyed by fire, so I am also here for moral support,” he said.
