SAVANNA-LA-MAR, Westmoreland – The trial of Rev Dr Paul Lewis, the international televangelist charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice is scheduled to begin in the Savanna-la-Mar Resident Magistrate’s Court today.
In June 2011, the pastor was freed of carnal abuse and indecent assault charges, and was last September acquitted of one of two charges of attempting to pervert the course of justice, after the prosecution witness backed out of the matter.

The court is expected to decide today whether or not the trial will be held in camera.
Last September, the Child Development Agency (CDA) requested of the Savanna-la-Mar Resident Magistrate’s Court that the case to be held in camera.
But Rev Lewis’ attorney, Keith Bishop told reporters then, that the defence would be fighting such a move by the prosecution, to keep the case away from the public.
Rev Lewis was arrested and charged with two counts of perverting the course of justice in October of 2010 when he turned up for court to answer to the carnal abuse and indecent assault charges.
It is alleged that Lewis paid a witness to get two teenage girls to change their testimonies in the carnal abuse and indecent assault matter.
He was subsequently freed of one of the charges.
