WHO’S GOT GAME?
You know who is going for gold today?. Stay on top of the action with our full Olympics schedule.
Usain Bolt didn’t set the world record in winning the 200 meters Thursday night at the Olympic Stadium. Heck, he didn’t take down the Olympic record.
But he still managed to put his name in a record book of sorts.
According to Twitter, Bolt did set a new Olympics Games conversation mark with more than 80,000 tweets per minute during his history-making run.
Twitter’s communication service sent out a tweet Thursday that said, “Record alert! @usainbolt sets a new Olympic Games conversation record with over 80,000 TPM for his 200m victory. #Olympics.”
MAKING HISTORY
More scores are in the books, medals around necks. Find out who’s golden, and who’s on their way, with our full Olympics results.
The combination of Bolt’s popularity (he is far and away the most sought-out athlete, even within the Olympic Village) and his unprecedented on-track accomplishments (he became the first male athlete to complete the 100-200 double in consecutive Olympics) make him natural fodder for social media.
Fittingly, the record Bolt broke was his own.
During his 100-meter victory, Bolt reportedly was being discussed at a 74,000 tweet-per-minute clip.

Usain Bolt won the 200 meters in 19.32 seconds Thursday night to become the first man with two Olympic titles at that distance.
Bolt beat countryman Yohan Blake by .12 seconds, and Warren Weir took third to make it a 1-2-3 sweep for Jamaica.
The 25-year-old Bolt won the 100 on Sunday and now has five Olympic golds – a number he celebrated by hitting the ground and doing five push-ups a few meters past the finish line.
Bolt, who has long considered the 200 his favorite event, will try to make it 6-for-6 at the Olympics in the 4×100 relay, which starts Friday.
The last country to sweep the 200 was the United States in 2004.
