A SMALL REVIEW A STING
All ina one STING Review on a few More Artists
After watching some of the performances I decided to take notes as many of the performers really need to be talked about. Some more than once
The band was off key a few times…and at other times was not anything anyone wanted to hear…
Raking pankin from Japan- The band played well for her couldn’t make out most of her words but the message was about peace and was good until the host came out disrespectfully and got her off set… during the performance ,the band had to be told to stop twice…excuse for rude dismissal was lateness…
Rich- was short effective and catchy- one song allowed until the host reminded him of the time
Max element—the host called him out…he came out. Performed well.-hair unkempt
Rasmonasy-good performance…distracting however as there were men behind holding flag- at one point there were four men holding one flag
Arsenal- He came out prancing around so much it took away from his performance…it was hard to hear him clearly
Ras in white sailor suit…good sounding. Good performance
Influence- Came out and quickly went off key and when he finally sang he started jumping all over the stage
Lafam-group nonsense there was nothing catchy or attractive about their performance
Casanova—Seemed like a very good artist and sang good old time sounding festival sounding music…band could not play his rhythm which was disgraceful until he finally asked them to stop playing and sang without the band well . He Introduced a German reggae singer who was not as commanding but overall the performance was good.
Gemstone a female performer sang very well, her song was good, until she called out Mr. Rango a Spanish Reggae artist who was I am sorry to say a horrible distraction. Overall the performance was different and good
Ronnydon-nothing to remember him by…wasn’t good, not bad
Danger- came on stage and at first the pace of his voice was slow while he talked I got a little nervous about hearing him sing but he was a very good dj
Jahmeile- was plagued by band troubles as the band took a while to find his number. He was ok not good or bad.
Thriller- came out and put on a very good show, over all a very good performer/good singer
Black Queen-Unattractive and distracting performer her lashes looked horrible, the hair was so plastic it glistened .She was a fairly good singe until she got into her second song that was wack. She also had a few words for Liang’’ because mi nuh suck no hood and suck no pussy dem nuh put har pan flyer’ ’host came on to take her off and left allowing her to sing another song and she did not come off stage until she thought she was done. Even left her back up dancers on stage.
Sashi- flop nothing else to say there
Nitro – Ran in like a mad man wildly singing mama Africa even the guitar player had a laugh on him
Food kartel and Kush – Brought nuff vibes the clash was friendly and well planned, lyrics were funny.
Davino – Performed well but made it a point of duty to tell the audience that he was performing unpaid
Pickney – Very good artist his child like voice made his lyrics fun, very good performer
Face- of all persons came out and rinsed every female artist, including rehashing the Lisa Hype saga Face yuh stale and love fake hype..Dere is nothing fi ride offa di Lisa Hype saga whey almost two year old..Get a life! Advantage tekking a nuh nothing fi females put each other down offa and yuh did tan well bad look like yuh did a go a shop ina yuh flat shoes…Face yuh did not MADE IT..kaw if mi seh mek it a go look too nice FACE ,,Yuh gwaan good wid di singing but low Lisa Hype now..a how much fi har one back can carry suh?
DI/ Daniele- you did not medz it boo boo. God know di shiney blue was distracting di only time mi enjoy di performance a when Shereen did come on..she is a lovely singer
Blaze – Apart from the distracting color of his hair, he was a good performer, refreshing to hear
Tellla – Performance was a good one but had to bring up Lisa Hype and mentioned that if she was the one who sucked Kartel she would have house etc, Tella it must stop! Ah time unno work together ina di business and try mek tings get bigger fi dancehall women dan fi join di stale news pudung band wagon
Flex – Yuh neva mek it sorry, it is absolutely stupid for someone to start jumping around before they start singing.-
This caused a big lacking in the quality of the performance as it took a while for him to catch himself but really didn’t fully recover from the lost breath. He introduced Kibaki who sang off key as the band seemingly could not find his number either, he sounded quite similar to Mavado, after Kibaki sang, Flex got better at his performance…He caught his breath
Landmine-Came on but flopped because the band did not know his rhythm and he was unable to perform well due to this
Jermaine- A soulful performer he sang very well but over-emphasized a few words and ended up using the dreaded H in a few words where it didn’t belong. His voice cracked a little…but over all a very good singer
Big up o ‘’pretty bwaay Floyd whey seh ‘’di brother has ROSEN to stardom’’
Now dis artist dung yasso a doe know him name but him give it to Kartel and seh Free Mason sell him puss ina bag and seh Portia fi go ras up
SO SAD
Her goals: find a great job, buy a house by age 45, start a sanctuary for gay and lesbian teens, marry the woman of her dreams and watch her son, Elijah, graduate from college.
Donna Fountain will never see any of her dreams come true.
At just 38, she was cut down on Christmas morning by a hit-and-run driver in Crown Heights as she headed out to work as a home health care aide.
A single mom, she left behind her bereft 8-year-old son.
Cops found the sad crumpled list of Fountain’s dreams at the scene of the accident and passed it to her neighbor.
“She gave everything she had to her son and worked so hard for him,” said her friend Dena Baveghems, 28.
“She was all about making her dreams come true. Nothing could have stopped her except this.”
Cops say Fountain was run down by a gray car around 7:30 a.m. as she crossed Eastern Parkway near Troy Avenue.
The car sped away, leaving the hardworking mom dying on the pavement two and a half blocks from home, where unopened Christmas presents sat and awaited her excited son.
Her brother, Ben Fountain, said investigators have been reviewing traffic camera footage and told him they are hopeful they can track the driver.
“They are 98% certain they can catch who did this,” he said.
“They took it upon themselves to take a life. How could they not stop?” he asked, his voice choked with emotion.
Donna Fountain, who worked for Partners in Care, shared a small apartment with her son.
She planned to work her early Christmas shift and come home to open presents with Elijah, who stayed with a sitter while she worked.
“She talked about saving up to buy his gifts. She was looking forward to being with him on Christmas,” Baveghems said.
“He was so excited. I don’t know how he’ll go on without his mom. They were incredibly close. She’s all he knows,” she said.
“I know it wasn’t easy for Donna. She made the best life possible for him.”
The timing of the tragedy was especially harsh, she said.
“I’m devastated for him. To lose the person who took care of him on Christmas is the worst thing I can imagine,” she said.
The boy will be taken in by relatives.
Ben Fountain called his sister “an exceptional woman” who was working hard to make a bright future for herself and her boy.
“She did it all on her own. She built herself up,” he said.
“She believed in herself. She had the normal problems any single parent has, but she persevered and fought for her dreams

FOLLOWING UP ON DOWNSOUND & STING..REVIEW
Downsound’s Review & STING’s Comeback
With manager Joe Bagdanovich and Skatta Burrell in toe Downsound Artist, Motion, Toddler, Toya and Specialist, after many rehearsals it is only to give a briefing of their performances at the shows they performed.
GT Taylor’s Christmas Extravaganza held on Sunday December 25, 2011 at Independence Park in Black River St Elizabeth had over forty acts, Toya, the first from the Downsound Force to grace the stage. Dressed in a white romper and gold accessories, she reeled out a total of five songs:-Hot Like A Fire, Boss Lady, Tek A Gal Man, You A Life and Thank You Jah. Her voice pitched high and low in order to catch up with the band; she finally recovered her performance and pulled it off.
Sting was a warm surprise as Toya did not disappoint. With the show being two hours behind, Toya sang a total of three songs: -Boss Lady, Tek A Gyal Man and You A Life. Contrary to what many expected, her performance went well, Thunda a guy who was dressed in a black suit and hat and was instructed by ”The Boss Lady” to give out the Christmas bonus that was missing from many Jamaicans this year, people could be seeing diving and stretching out their hands for the flowing cash, while the host called her Ms. Flippa Mafia .Her presence was commanding. Even I was totally caught off guard. She was not off key, not high or low pitched she called G Warren onstage, paying homage to Bounty and the fact that he brought many Artists into the business. G Warren performed well and Toya’s performance was good, all the eyes and ears that were waiting to see a terrible performance were left saying a very shy ”good work ”while people who watched Toya grow, applauded her whole heartedly as her performance was one of the strongest of the females at STING.
Toddler came onstage at the Extravaganza nice and easy, pretty comfortable onstage, a natural entertainer. He started off with ”Thank you Jah” went into it easy however when switching into his song ”God Give Me Strength” there was a well noticed stutter before he went into the song completely. The band had missed his rhythm and that seemed to have thrown him off. He gracefully ended his song, got quite a few horns tooting as this seems to be the new trend in ”forwarding” nowadays. Even at sting the same band did not perform but the band there even forgot Landmine’s rhythm, the fact that one band has to play over twenty sets, may explain why artists are put at a disadvantage having to have to play catch up with the failed music of the band.
Specialist was last to perform from the Downsound Force at the Extravaganza and at sting
Specialist came onstage at the Extravaganza and commanded the attention of the band. His performance was” hard”. Singing, Gallist Anthem, Street Hustle and Phone Card. Sting brought out the real Specialist; let’s call him ”Hittist”. He came out fully dressed for war, fireworks in motion lyrics under his belt. For a fairly young performer he was not short on what it took to demolish the opponent Hurricane who had no lyrics to counteract. What was also disappointing was also the fact that Hurricane looked as if he came from a day’s hard labor in a garage. The clash literally had me on the edge of my bed as ”Pretty Boy Floyd” had to get in the middle because it appeared a little too serious but remained a lyrical war. His opponent was not a contender. Specialist has it locked. Excellent performance
The ability to literally see all the performers and single out a common denominator amongst all of them is disheartening, saddening but would be a quick fix considering… All of the artists seemed to have rehearsed to an extent but it was clear that their management /lack of management was lacking. Specialist’s outfit was obviously thought about down to the T even a coffin was bought to be a part of his costume The lack of provisions for artists plays on their self- esteem as many of them seemingly felt out of place, looking out on a crowd that were attired much better than they were. It would suffice to separate stage attire apart from regular attire and also remember that each time your audience is addressed it is somewhat of a formal affair, stage- wise. Management should be a prepared business and not one to venture in without the capital to start because it makes or breaks an artist if their presentations are poor. STING made a come-back this year and it truly shows that dancehall does not revolve around merely a few artists it is a movement that continues to evolve.
