DEM SEH A JAMAICANS DEM
MIAMI GARDENS (CBSMiami) – Miami Gardens Police are looking for a man who bailed out of a car that led cops on a high speed chase across Florida Tuesday afternoon.
Two men were arrested in a neighborhood near Sun Life Stadium after jumping out of the car, police said.
Chopper 4 captured video of the men was they hopped over fences and ran through backyards trying to evade police.
Neighbors near NW 199 Street and NW 27 Avenue heard the commotion.
One man said cops even searched his house.
“I come out the door and look and police is everywhere. Metro-Dade, Miami Gardens, Opa Locka, a lot of undercovers and all that,” Chris Brown told CBS 4′s Lauren Pastrana.
Brown said police looked through his home and went out to his backyard.
“The back streets were full of cops,” Geordine Williams said. “They were running throughout my yard, on top of the roof, helicopters flying all over.”
Police said this all started as a traffic stop for a window tint violation in Southwest Florida, near Mile Marker 98 on Alligator Alley in Collier County .
The Sheriff’s Office there said when the driver got out to speak with deputies, one of the passengers hopped behind the wheel and sped off, sparking the chase that sometimes reached speeds of more than 100 miles an hour across Collier, Broward and finally Miami-Dade County where cops and K-9s caught up with them.
The Florida Highway Patrol assisted briefly in the chase, according to an FHP spokesman.
Two men wearing hoodies were arrested in Miami Gardens.
A third guy got away.
People in the neighborhood where the take-down occurred said they aren’t surprised police were able to corner the men there.
They said if you’re not from around the area, you can easily get lost along the winding roads and dead ends in this community.
Today, they’re glad for that.
“I was happy because it let me know when something happens, you’ll be protected,” Williams said.
“It could have been worse. There could have been a shootout with police,” Brown said. “It was crazy, though.”
Charges are pending against the two people who were arrested.
If you have any information about the third person, contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
