NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – The mother of a Brooklyn teen who was shot and killed by police spoke out Thursday after dozens of people protesting the boy’s death were arrested overnight in a clash with police.

Speaking from the office of City Councilman Charles Barron, Carol Gray, the mother of 16-year-old Kimani Gray, said her son was slaughtered and she wants to know why.

Gray told reporters her son was killed in front of his best friend’s house after a birthday party. She also said she does not condone violence and only wants justice for her son.

Officers in riot gear arrested 46 people during a candlelight vigil Wednesday night, the third straight day of protests against Gray’s death. Most were arrested on charges of disorderly conduct, police said.

Two officers were also injured. One was treated for a gash in his face after police said a brick was thrown at him.

Wednesday’s protest came after autopsy results showed Gray was shot seven times in his shoulders, arms and legs with wounds to the front and back of his body.

He was shot by two plainclothes cops Saturday night after police said he pulled a .38 caliber gun on the officers.

Police said the officers from the Brooklyn South Anti-Crime Patrol were walking East Flatbush when they came upon a group of young men standing in front of a home on East 52nd Street.

When the officers approached and started to talk to the group, Gray began acting suspiciously and ran from the officers, police said.

Police said at one point, Gray grabbed for something in his waistband. Gray then pulled out a gun and pointed it at the officers, according to police.

When the plainclothes officers saw the gun, they both fired. Gray was pronounced dead at Kings County Hospital a short time later, police said.

A gun was recovered at the scene, but Gray’s family maintains the teen wasn’t armed.

“After he got the first shot on the ground, he was like please don’t kill me, don’t let me die and then I heard the police went over and started shooting,” said Gray’s cousin, who did not give his name.

People in the community have said Gray’s death highlights a larger problem of police brutality.

“The cops need to respect the people and the neighborhood and maybe the people wouldn’t be so angry,” said Flatbush resident Aaron Viera. “The community is angry and the community is voicing their opinion right now and the cops need to understand they just can’t react any way they want to with a gun.”

On Thursday, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said it’s sad for the family and that he understands the anger in the East Flatbush community, but said he won’t tolerate violent outbreaks in the community, 1010 WINS’ Stan Brooks reported.

“You can rest assured we will take adequate precautions to protect the public and I am not at liberty to discuss what those will be — they’ll be different every day,” Bloomberg said. “Some you’ll see, some you won’t. That’s what we do all the time. We have the best trained police department in the country.”

Bloomberg said he has not gone to the shooting scene because he does not want to inflame the situation, Brooks reported. The mayor also said he believes it is too soon to visit the teen’s family.

Bloomberg said he promises a thorough investigation, and that all indications are that Kimani “Kiki” Gray had a gun.

A weapon recovered after the shooting was originally purchased in Florida, Bloomberg added.

Carol Gray said she doesn’t believe her son pointed a gun at police. She sobbed as she discussed choosing the color of her son’s casket.

On Monday, a mob broke away from a candlelight vigil and stormed a produce stand, trashing registers and throwing bottles at the cashier, police said.

They then ransacked a Rite Aid and attacked a customer, police said.

Gray’s parents have condemned the recent protests, saying the violence “clouded their message,” a family spokesman said.

“It’s a tough time for the community,” said the spokesman, Rev. Gilford Monrose. “But the family and myself do not condone the violence.”

This is freaking OVERKILL and deliberate. She’s right, he slaughtered this kid like an animal. Seven shots, even in his back?
Don’t tell me how these hoodlums behave. Hoodlum or not, it is too easy for them to think it’s okay to kill any black man, today it’s what you wish to term a hoodlum, tomorrow it will be a college kid. This is outrageous.
How many times they arrest armed white men? They don’t shoot them down in the streets. This kids’ character does not negate the brutality of this.
    Enough is enough.

THEY DO NOT KILL WHITE DELINQUENT CHILDREN THE WAY THEY KILL BLACK CHILDREN. IF HE HAS BEEN SHOT ONCE AND IS INCAPACITATED AND BEGGING FOR HIS LIFE, THEN THERE IS NO REASON TO SHOOT HIM 6 MORE TIMES. SAME WAY THEM USE SHOT GUN AND MURDER THE OLD LADY ELENORE BUMPERS YRS AGO.. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

  • Real says:

The influential black men are busy backing rappers and athletes who talk about what they wish to have and how they wish to spend it . While, young men who are in need of protection are left up to the false videos and false prophets. Everyone without morals do what they are allowed to do. This is not the first and will not be the last.

  • Foxy Lady says:

    @REAL…………………………………I can’t love you anymore.

This should not be condoned in the black community. Those bastards don’t give a shit if it’s a thug or not, once your black you’re less human in their eyes. These kids were set up from day one by the inferior education, lack of books and overcrowding in the inner city schools.
They have introduced violent rap songs and bling bling to have these youths chase the fast life. It’s the only thing they have been exposed to. TV becomes their reality. They are not educated and know no different from what they have been handed.

No black person should condone this killing. Take him to jail, shoot him in his leg but don’t slaughter a mother’s child like an animal. When you cannot differentiate between the police and the thugs that a real problem.

Sean Bell was shot over 40 times and nothing came of it. Rodney King was beaten inches away from death and those officers were promoted. Black people are no less people and are not animals or disposal. The police is to serve and protect, not kill and ask questions later. Any society where this becomes the norm is a barbaric one. Black people wake up. The people are rioting because it’s one death too many.

Yes, there is the issue of black and black which is no less terrifying than a police slaughter but once again, where he’s from and his background does not justify being shot down like a dog.

  • Just Saying says:

I said to myself I wasn’t going to comment on this story, but since this is an autopsy result that means it’s final. “Gray was shot seven times in his shoulders, arms and legs”… In my opinion these wounds sound like they were trying to disarm him and or preventing him from running. Doesn’t sound like they were malicously trying to kill him.

    NYPD IS KNOWN FOR CORRUPTION.

I HEARD THE BULLSHIT HOW OFFICERS HAVE FAMILY TOO! WHATEVER, WE STILL PAYING TAXES LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE IN THIS ENTIRE MONEY LAUNDERING SCHEME!
SO, IF YOU TACKLE THE KID AND SHOOT IN THE FOOT, RATHER THAN TAKING HIS LIFE WHY NOT?????? NO BECAUSE WE ARE BLACK ANIMALS WE CAN COMMUNICATE WITH NO ONE BUT DOGS RIGHT?? I HEARD ALL THE STORIES AND LIEK I SAID NYPD WILL KILL YOU OR ME IF THEY FIND US SUSPICIOUS! WHAT IF THE FIREARM WAS LICENSE TO HIS PARENT AND HE STOLE IT! DOES THAT MEAN YOU POP HIS AZZ WITH 11 SHOTS AND CUT HIS LIFE SHORT??? NYPD SYSTEM IS GARBAGE AND AS LONG AS THEY KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH IT IT WILL NEVER STOP!

Zervah, this is bigger than Kimani. I can’t recall a time a white man was gunned down by police and murdered. That’s the problem.
People have to riot, this is not Apartheid Africa in the 80’s. The country was built on our backs and we are no less than any other race that commit crimes.
White men are serial killers and pedophiles and cannibals and they do not shoot them down in the streets.
It is unacceptable. If we don’t do anything regardless of the kids background, sooner than later, this will be the norm.
The US is turning into a full fledge police state, they are not judge and jury and that’s not their job.

@REAL…………my people cannot see they were set up until they started believing and living the lies they were told about themselves.
When ya’ll get up everyday singing to Jay Z and Beyonce and Lil Wayne and have no idea that they are paid to lead your children astray, don’t blame the youths that cannot see the big picture.
Jay Z has to sing about bling bling and jets and fast life to keep the youths on the corner selling dope, chasing the fast life while blasting ‘big pimping’ and then they can fill the correctional facilities that our government promise the private owners 90% occupancy rates.
There are more black men in prison than were enslaved in 1885.
When ya’ll are listing to Beyonce and watching her grinding up herself, the young girls feel this is what they are about, that’s their way to fortune and fame. Why are there only hoes on reality tv? Women who have to sleep with men to get ahead and feel validated?

It’s all a freaking set up and this kid is its offspring!

  • Foxy Lady says:

Further, today marks the 5 millionth stop and frisk in NYC under Bloomberg and 4.3 million of those were black and latino. It’s a f000ing problem. Do not let them sell you on the idea it is wrong to riot for betterment, for change. Do not let them sell you on the idea that if you riot then you are the hoodlum.
Change will not be handed to anyone. No good changes have ever came about without bloodshed and tears.
Do not forget your history. Turn the tv’s off and stop let them planting ideas in your heads and vilifying your own people.
Yes black people need to get their shit together but it is not easy for the inner city youths.

It’s all one big club and we ain’t f000ing in it!

  • Observer says:

Foxy I would not have denigrated this young man’s character without proof. He was indeed a bloods. Despite what his Mom will say, it comes as no surprise, after all she’s his Mother…it is almost imminent that she will speak of him in that manner. BLOODS GANG MEMBERS KILL!! No if ands or buts about that. My family has suffered at their hands. This child has suffered at the hands of cops but he wasn’t innocent! I am not minimizing a death, no! I’m saying it was him by cops or him by other gang members. His Mom says his arrest for car theft is “joy-riding” REALLY?? His Mom says his gang affiliation is only because he hangs with neighborhood kids REALLY?? At what point is she gonna stop making excuses for her child? MAYBE NEVER! SHE IS HIS MOTHER. He needed guidance, which he never got. He got that from his older brother that passed away. He was a roaming child that hits the streets and without guidance and teachings..this was coming very soon.

  • Observer says:

So Foxy, I propose this question to you…”Should we battle and riot for betterment to achieve betterment?”

  • Met says:

Foxy u si Al Sharptan come out or wadeva him name? American justice system is corrupt I agree but justice is served in most cases.

  • @Sheryl licesned to his PARENTS. Not him thus it is illegal. @ M16 are u saying that the officers were just randomly driving around a busy neighborhood with a ‘piece’ trying to find a black kid to shoot and plant it on? Or were they specifically looking for Kimani who was on some most wanted list? Do you realize how silly and naive u sound?? At first no one was debating that he had a gun. Now all of a sudden he was not armed. kmft. This happened in the wide open in front of witnesses. Why would officers risk planting a gun on the kid in the open knowing that people were around. Worst yet knowing that we live in an age where cameras are all over. Like someone said before, it would be easier for them to say “oh, we thought he had a gun” than to plant a gun on him. This isn’t in the backwoods of Jamaica where police can do anything and get away with it. Remember Amadou Diallo? He was shot and killed 41 times 14 years ago in the dark with no witnesses around and in a time when there were no camera, video phones or CC TVs like there are today. Those officers could have planted a gun back then. Did they? No, they simply said we thought he had a gun. Teach your kids to do the right thing! If his parents were tight on his ass he wouldn’t be outside f*cking around and gang banging. That is the part that is most frustrating. I bet u dat u wouldn’t protest and carry on if he was downed by another gang banger. If that was the case all these ‘witnesses’ including the lady who claims she had a bird’s eye view would not have seen anything and then instead of wanting ‘justice’ the motto would be ‘snitches gets stitches’. You people kill me when stuff like this happens. That’s why the youths will always go astray. Here you are defending a kid who potentially could’ve met you in the street and ended your life as a result of proving his toughness. Excessive? If you think a man is coming at you or is threatening to kill you stand there and let him do it or get the chance to think about it. Then when you die or get paralyzed and can no longer provide for your own then you will know what excessive is. His friends that were there knew he had a gun. What 16 year old gangster will have a gun and not show it off? Why is he the only one that ran? Why are you running if you weren’t armed? Why would the cops single him out to shoot him? Please. This ‘baby’ was a gunman. A shotta. A gangsta. A wanna be badman. Well unfortunately it is just 2 things that come with that type of life: death and or prison. Stop letting your children parent themselves. I will hawk over my child until he is 25 years old. Bury the kid and learn from his mistakes. God bless us all.

Foxy, that much is known about our Government. President Obama can’t be for us anymore than we can be for ourselves. If he had to condemn each killing of our black men and women, he would not have a job. That much is a fact. However, he has renounced this so many times that HEALING, TEACHING, GUIDING ETC BEGINS WITHIN THE HOME. I will say this much, if one cannot handle their children SEEK HELP in doing so.

  • STAR says:

@OG true statement. I say it once and I say it again. Kill them no jail time for them to be better harder criminal that’s going to kill my kids and family. Cause them afraid to go in the white and Jewish areas. History prove we as blacks been treat as animals and we continue to breed and act like what is consider animals. I am black mi love being black proud educated & beautiful but the true we need to take responsible for our self and race. Parenting starts at home and our community. It take a village to raise a child. Why the neighbor can’t talk to some of us kids to go inside why they out so late cause their parents will want to fight the neighbor that knew and see this child from he was a baby. We need to wake the f000 up stop blame and want to argue when things happen then tomorrow we silent. If we all were responsible for our own and race them less racism people will get away with hurting us.

  • And for all who talk about the NYPD gunning down black men/people. I agree but notice that we are always putting ourselves in situations where we are targeted. The bad side of that is sometimes the good feel it for the bad. We need to stand up and take responsibilty for ourselves and our community. We need to come together and clean up our community that way our kids won’t fall victim to shit like this. If the community wasn’t filthy then there would be no need for cops on every corner of Church Ave. Why aren’t there so many cops in Canarsie or Mill Basin etc? the cops don’t go to the white areas of Brooklyn because they are not gunning each other down like animals like we do in our neighborhoods. If this kid was killed by a crip. His buddies would be out there shooting down everyone in blue. There would be no rally or protest. Open your eyes people. It starts with us!!

Met, Al Sharpton is an opportunist and any labeling of the kid associated with ‘bloods’ he will disassociate himself from. I have a whole different take on Al Sharpton that I don’t care to venture into now.
Met, with black people justice is very rarely served. There has not been one convicted police officer for any of those murders. All the cops walked on Sean Bell and Rodney King even though they were caught on tape.
There is no justice in the system because the system does not respect black men.

I do not know if he was in a gang. He could have been. I have not read all the articles to know definitively if he was or wasn’t. I don’t care about the kids’ background but what I do know is that when this becomes the norm, we will confuse the USA with Apartheid Africa.

Like I said, this situation transcends Kimani and is a reminder of how disposable the black man is in America.

  • Observer says:

Foxy, your last sentence is exactly what I concur with. BLACK MEN CONTINUE TO BE DISPOSED BECAUSE THEY CONTINUE TO BE TRASH….and thus they’re disposed. The mentality isn’t with the cops it is with us.

  • Foxy Lady says:

Zervah, sorry to hear of your nephew. You have more than ample reason to despise the very mention of the name or any affiliation with it.
If the guy had pulled a gun on the cop and the cop shot in self defense, then I have no problem because the cop has a family and I much rather know that a cop killed a criminal in the street than a criminal killed a cop and left his kids without a father.

However, this is problematic on every level. How was the kid shot in his back? That indicates that the cop was not threatened as the kid tried to flee. Shoot him in his legs but to deliberately gun him down? No, cannot and will not condone that. I drive a high end vehicle and never have a problem and any time my little brother who is of dark complexion, drives that car, it’s a problem. He cannot even make it to the gas station without being pulled over because in their minds, he must have stolen the vehicle. I’ve seen him so pissed at the tickets that he cried and I never seen that boy cried before, but it’s the frustration of knowing why he’s being pulled over everyday.

I had to go to the police station with him and tell them the next time he’s pulled over in this vehicle I’m filing a lawsuit for racial profiling. It is not stolen, he’s clean, run his background, never been arrested and I”m sick and tired of this shit, so put it in your system because I’m documenting this conversation.

When the little 16 year old white boys drive up their bentleys and ferraris, they’re not getting pulled over because the cops assume, oh it’s the parents.

Kimani is a product of a system that created these thugs. They did that when they killed off conscious hip hop with KRS one and those groups back then and introduced gangster rap. They broke the black families when they strategically unleashed crack in the black communities to kill off the black power movement with the black panthers and the consciously aware black people back then.

  • Foxy Lady says:

Original Goodas, these people do not have the same mentality as you and I do. His mother probably knew no better or saw no problems with it or probably couldn’t control him.

Like I said, if the kid drew a gun and the police responded in self defense then fair enough. But how was the kid shot in his back? Did the kid really have a gun?
There are conflicting witnesses on this story but my position remains, it is too easy for them to gun down young black men in the streets like dogs.

I wholeheartedly agree it starts with us but as I’ve said here before, in order for people to understand that we are our biggest enemy they must understand how the enemy has set us up and how we have fell into every trap.

They don’t see the traps, they don’t even understand what they are, let alone aware of their own actions.
I pity him and every Kimani in the hood because they are lost, they know not who they are, they can’t envision a future, they have no love for self or humanity. They are simply walking zombies created by a f000ed up system that screwed them mentally. Once you kill a people’s mind the body will follow. That is what we have here.

So my heart will always go out to the inner city youths, the ones populating the penitentiaries, the ones with the guns on their waist waiting to gun down his own black brother, the black people bleaching, the girls showing off their asses being exploited and objectified.
There was a time when the white man used to have our black women with their big asses on exhibition naked prostituting them, they would die in their twenties from diseases, now it’s the women exploiting their own big asses, the HIV rates are ridiculous in the black communities and we can’t see that it’s us that’s killing us now.

So yes, it’s starts with us no doubt about that but this eats at my core.

  • Met says:

Foxy it eat me too mainly because you cant get through to these kids.

  • STAR says:

@FOXY LADY If he is a product of a system that created these thugs then our race should be fighting to solve the problem.

  • Toni Ann says:

    Evening Met and Metters.

This is the one thing mi nuh like wid us black people we are very very very bias… all when di people dem wrong we still nuh wah seh dem wrong because a wi own.

i hold my grounds said way, WE THE BLACKS CREATE A LOT OF PROBLEMS FOR OUR SELVES THEN START BITCH WHEN SHIT IT THE FAN.
example??? black people start calling themselves nigga, nigger, nigro, but get mad when white people start calling then dat. if we were nipping things in the bud from long time shit wouldnt be getting worse instead of better.

  • Toni Ann says:

we got lil wayne spitting hateful words at black women, no one riot about that.
we got multle rappers saying they dont dont dark skin women, no one riot about that.
we got like almost 90 damn % of black rappers rapping about doing drugs, murdering people, f000ing bitches, no out cry bout dat.
almost every damn black movie that come out its always about cheating, bitches, selling drugs etc why aint we riled about that?

a lot of these kids are thugs, they terrorized you in your own damn neighborhood (just watch first 48) but not one peep out of us. mi nah waste my time unless mi sure.

  • Toni Ann says:

    @Met
a lot of the kids dont give a shit because them parents a thug to. when i was high school my teacher chastised a classmate of mines fi speaking while she was speaking and told her to go to the principle office, guess wah?? the mother came and wanted to fight the teacher, so tell me now, if youre the teacher, would you want that child in your class again?

  • Foxy Lady says:

    @Met, my exact sentiments.

@Toni ann, you fail to understand the underlying issues involved. Your story is one sided because you live among these people and harbor animosity drawn from your personal experiences. The issues that plague these people are deep rooted and penetrate every aspect of their lives. It is no coincidence but rather by design.

@Star, I fail to see your point.

  • Toni Ann says:

    @Foxy Lady
Im sorry but we created the problem. There is a reason why its very easy for them to target blacks more than spanish, spanish stick togather, lash out, and dont let a thing go. We on the other hand, chat today and done tomorrow, as long as ano our kids, friends, associate etc the person wrong, but if its ours then we cuss.

I am not bias, i have given them the benefit of the doubt all the time, even fight (not fist fight) for my own but eventually my own said “you always coming with some shit like you malcolm x,” or “its 2000/2004/2010 etc racism aint real” so i quit wasting my time.

  • Toni Ann says:

what should i do ah? start a riot? mash up my neighborhood? Everyone diss us, from white, chinese, spanish, you name it, because they know we’re finnicky.

Ramarley got killed, Sean Bell got killed, how many black people rally round for that?

  • Real says:

no EYN I did not see the video ……and I am saying that they did not have to kill him …I never said he was innocent and I was just stating that he deserved to live a life even if he had to be corrected……People are idolizing criminals and whipping them on the other hand ..People imiate models as done in the bobo doll experiment in 1961 by DR Albert Bandura….Where could he have learned that a gang is cool?? Maybe because his mother is working 18 hrs day trying to buy food and pay rent for a place that should be quarantined he is going to learn things on the streets….And then when you see your first black president shaking hands with Jay Z…..IF I was his age I think it would be cool to be gangsta

  • Real says:

Mi go through two robberies before the age of seven weh traumatize mi but …afterward mi start look pon di ting pon a different point of view …mi still enter mi house with caution an that was over 20 odd years ago …mi nah tek up fi no criminal robbing and killing ppl …but some time wi haffi look pon what cause these things ….no man nuh born so .

  • Toni Ann says:

Racists never stop being racists, hateful people never stop hating, so why do we stop fighting? its a long time white people and other races treating us like shit and its only getting worse because we give them all the power they need. I never see one damn black leader speaking out about racism or equal opportunity for us or so one, only time dem come forward is when there is monetary gain.

  • Foxy Lady says:

We did not create the problem. This is bigger than the inner cities and until you research the history of the role the CIA has played in the demise of the black man you will never grasp what I’m attempting to share with you.

In the 60’s black men wore suits, slacks, shirts and ties, even when they were dirt poor. It was a sign of self respect and dignity. The women wore dresses and bonnets and the children did the same. Those were the very people who marched peacefully with Martin Luther King and effected the Civil Rights Act of 1964. We had a cause and the cause was greater than any one individual.

After Martin Luther’s demise, the black panther entered the scene saying that the peaceful protest were not achieving anything and we must fight for black power. They were all set up on murder charges, robbery charges and incarcerated and killed. Some of these were Geronimo Pratt, Tupac’s Godfather, Tupac’s mother Afeni, his aunt Assata Shakur. Asata broke out of prison and with other political prisoners was given asylum status by Castro and is still in Cuba to this day.

To ensure that there would be no more black panther and a raise in black power, crack was introduced in the inner cities. Then we had the crack heads and the crack babies, the baby daddies and the broken homes. The dealers started killing each other and going to prison and that’s how the black on black crime was born.

In the 80’s hip hop came on the scene and guys were into parties, it was conscious music, block parties, street dancing, this became a way of life and a right of passage for every black man. They strategically replaced that with gangster rap, and this lead to the escalation of black on black crime, mass incarceration and the hoochie mama.

It’s the reason why Bob Marley and John Lennon had to die. Because music is the most potent and spiritual thing. It has the power to evoke all kinds of emotions in people, to move people at the core. Only Bob Marley could have joined two warring parties in Jamaica and that was accomplished through the message in the music.

It is not an overnight fix and like I said, you can spew crap from now until tomorrow about what the kid should have done or he shouldn’t have been there, the fact still remains, the problem is psychological. These people are mentally enslaved. The problem is systemic. They are disenfranchised in many ways. It’s not an overnight fix because it wasn’t an overnight problem.

  • Toni Ann says:

    @Foxy Lady
so if i should “read my history” and believe dat then i will always people that black people are a set of people that dont learn, cannot elevate dem self.
racism, slavary, my mother fuel the fire for me, makes me want to be the best of the best, not the worse.
suh wah, all the great black people died and we weh lef a batta foot? nuh more black people nuh destine fi greatness??
Sorry, but a adult is an adult, its time we stop act like lost sheep, like if someone nuh hold wi hand wi caah cross the street. As I said before we are finnicky, today we whistle like kettle, tomorrow we’re cold as ice. As someone said yesterday, if yuh dont stand fi something, you will fall for anything.

  • Real says:

There is no solution to the problem because the “problem” is a way of life. Words were created to accept the life eg. “swag””bad man”. Many black women have a lot of skills but they are berated by the men who feel helpless and do not know their own power. People would have to change their entire life. But they are not willing to change life so until then people will always take their life. Whether by death or bribe.

  • Toni Ann says:

Your environment is not who you are, WE chose our destiny, not white american. A lot of black people are so prould of the ghetto or the hood, yuh woulda think a diamond and gold deh deh, gwaan guh tell dem theres better and see how it will guh. I use to hear mi granny seh “why buy the cow when yuh can get di milk free” and now mi understand, why go to college? why fight? why educate yuh self when yuh can sell drugs and wear gucci, fendi, get unlimited bitch? its not the environment, its the easy damn livity weh dem love.

  • Toni Ann says:

    @Foxy Lady
you say “i spew crap” but you same one said “you dont want them in your neighborhood,” tell me why not?
I dont need people to sweet talk me, i need people to tell me the truth, thats the problem, even if a million years from now we still having the same problem, we just continue fi blame the problem on the white man instead of holding our own accountable.
You think jay z and then dont know what they doing to their own? dem know, but they dont give a f000.
    Anyway agree to disagree.

  • Foxy Lady says:

@REAL…………….that’s a very potent first statement of yours.
SWAG meaning secretly we are gay
    Saggin spelt NIGGERS backwards
The acceptance and ownership of ‘hoes and bitches’, money over bitches, G’s up hoes down.
All those words and slangs galvanized in the rap lyrics mold the psyche of the young, the very reason why black men do not respect women. Why they treat their women like filth. The seed was planted in their minds at young ages.
The introduction of BET in the black home was their weapon of mass destruction.

  • Observer says:

I am against BLACK on BLACK crime. I am against police brutality. To date, I still will not reserve the fact that these cops were brutal in their actions. Yes a number of shots fired will never be justified because, lets face it…..one shot could’ve killed the teen and there’d have still been an outcry. On the otherhand, the actions following this aftermath is BLACK ON BLACK CRIME. This is infact not a riot, this is RAGE! We are fueled by rage because we are mentally enslaved. The police are not our enemy, I refuse to believe that. We spark a war with the officers because we’re fueled by rage and we will not win if this is the decency in which we plan to act…this is complete idiocy….and will solve just about nothing!

I hope when a gang member be it a teen or an adult is killed by another of the same affiliations, we have a “riot” in placed to display our unsupportive ways. I hope we possess the same thoughts of “killing them all” as what is being echoed now regarding our police officers. Is this a Genocide? NO! Why employ these thoughts? If our officers did indeed kill in self defense…must we defend them in their actions to protect and serve? YES!

If we must achieve good and a betterment for our society. We must understand that yes…this is a bigger problem. But fi a act lakka ulligan noooooooooo it naw mek nuh sense. Employ the attitude needed to calmly dissect the issues we’re facing. Start with a cease and desist order…stop di bag a foolishness a Brooklyn weh unnuh a gwaan wid n stawt pon finding a solution. Yuh tink di police dem a guh get fired wen unnuh gwaan suh..unnuh onli show seh unnuh a warboat n gang bangers n dem haffi tek unnuh out. I’M DONE HERE!

This is not the old racist America of the 60’s and even though we believe that elements of the KKK reside within NYPD, discipline yuh pickney and keep them out of gangs and off street corners. We claim we are armed with the knowledge that NYPD is out to get black folks yet we give them all kinds of excuses to get away with murder. Those detectives must have “detected” he had a gun, they reacted out of fear or plain blood lust, who knows point is the child is dead and rioting will not bring him back. Seek restitution in the courts. Let’s just do our part by raising, good sons and our voices against caylissness in our communities. Let the lawmen and the justice system do their part in protecting people and property.

  • Foxy Lady says:

@ Observer, I agree wholeheartedly with your above post.

    LMAOOOOOOOOOO

  • Real says:

It make no sense we argue ..because all of us are saying the same thing …di woman cannot protect the child….the child’s father is probably absent …..her father was probably absent….government create a work for work environment that delete family…many women in the inner city do not have the knowledge….they try to stay of welfare …..they go and find a job ….the job is demanding about 80 hrs a week…they cannot raise there children….the father is not even looking after or about the child….he is probably on drugs ..or start a new life with a new woman and wants to leave the past behind…….gang members are always there he goes to the store for his mother one day and is approached by a stranger……the stranger looks like a father figure …..and he also looks like the men on tv…the man gives him a twenty …….he feels that the man likes him ….he found what he is looking for……he starts to run errands for the man ………..the man have him gang banging and now he meets up with other kids like himself…..mother gone a work or cracked out or whatever ….mother is just not there …..mother cant talk to him because him a hold money …….one ting leads to another …he starts robbing people ….di big man seh if u si a yute inna yu territory dis him……him now known he is in again apart of something..loneliness is now gone he has a family ……criminality is the formation. …he starts stealing cars …………he gets caught …..he is out ….his mother still not home……one day he is going about his gang banging ways and he was shot and killed with 41 bullets ……

BUT HANGING OUT ON THE STREETS OF NEW YORK IS A NORMAL ACTIVITY IN EVERY COMMUNITY IN THE CITY. WHITE KIDS DO IT IN THEIR COMMUNITIES. WHAT YOU DON’T THINK THEY HAVE GUNS AND SELL DRUGS. BRUK PEOPLE HOUSE AND GRAG PEOPLE POCKET BOOK? YES THEY DO THEM HAVE GANGS, BUT POLICE ARE NOT GUNNING FOR THEM. HE HAD THE RIGHT TO A TRIAL AND DUE PROCESS OF THE LAW. JUST LIKE THE WHITE PICKNEY THEM. WHY WHEN THEY KILL A BLACK MAN IT’S A MASSACRE. HOW MANY SHOTS DOES IT TAKE? AND WHY THEY JUST CANNOT WOUND?. I LIVE IN A PREDOMINANTLY WHITE NEIBORHOOD. WHEN I BOUGHT MY HOME THERE WERE ONLY 2 MORE BLACK PEOPLE. THE POLICE STOPPED MY SON OVER 14 TIMES IN ONE YR, WALKING THROUGH THE NEIBORHOOD ON HIS WAY TO HIS JOB. POLICE STOP HIM AND HAVE THE NERVE FI ASK HIM, WHERE HIM GOING, WHERE HIM LIVE, AND WHEN MY SON TELL HIM SEH HIM ON HIS WAY TO WORK. TINKING POLICE BWOY AGO TELL HIM FI BUY A CAR. YOUNG WHITE BWOYS WALK AROUND HERE ALL THE TIME. I LIVE IN A COMMUNITY WHERE THERE IS A LARGE UNIVERSITY. THE COMMMUNITY FREE BUS THAT TAKES PEOPLE FROM OUR COMMUNITY TO THE METRO. MY CHILDREN WERE ON IT ON THEIR WAY TO SCHOOL. WHITE MAN TELL THEM SEH THEM DONT BELONG ON THIS BUS. MY SON WAS SO HUMILIATED HE GOT OF THE BUS. I really don’t understand the comparison of this killing to Bell/ Diallo. This kid had a gun. They didn’t. There could have been a different outcome and i sincerely wish he hadnt been killed, but that’s the risk u take when u arm yourself with a weapon. Yes a percentage of the NYPD is racist and sometimes kill without just cause, but we kill each other without just cause too. I might add at a greater percentage than the NYPD. I’m sick and tired of hearing black people bitch “woe is me” as if we need friggin Moses to lead us. We have choices! Yes we do! I have three brothers and none chose to join a gang. Yes they can be racially profiled too but chances are a gang banger can rob and kill them too. When a dad/son/brother etc gets killed over an iPhone or $10 by a 14/15 yrs old what are your thoughts? I’m sure y’all read about it, maybe sympathize for a sec and keep it moving. A cop kills a 16yr old with a gun and its being made out to be racism at its best. The future of out black kid will be very dim if we continue to pass blame and not look into ourselves and figure out how to uplift our race. Someone said that they (police) don’t kill white people like they kill us. True, but do they commit violent crimes at the rate that we do? Do they kill out their race as we do ours? Our kids are going astray and will continue to do so unless we as parents train them in the right way and not let the streets grow them

  • Anonymous says:

My boyfriend told me about this on sunday,, its funny how some of you guys are blaming the system, society, politics, or whom eva.. the fact is the is no one to blame but the parents of this kid!!!! the polices are trained to shoot and kill once a weapon is seen….. It is very unfortunate but it happens.. We as parents have a responsibility and it is to make sure that the children we bear is not a burden to SOCIETY….

Do you people not read or do you read and not comprehend? At what point on this thread was anyone deflecting blame from the parents or the child? At what point were people saying it’s okay to be a gang banger? At what point was anyone saying that what they do in the hood is right?
I feel like I’m in kindergarten right now.

IS THAT A CONDEMNATION FOR DEATH? IT LOOK LIKE WE FI JUST TUN WE BACK PON THE YOUNG PEOPLE WHO ARE IN NEED OF US THE MOST. I HAVE SEEN GUN MAN TUN PREACHER. WHORE TUN HOUSEWIFE. Sweet….. If yu pickney deh ah street all hours a night, you are not a parent. You are his friend, and not a good friend. You say at 16 there is still time to turn his life around. May I ask who is responsible for that?

  • Foxy Lady says:

@Toni ann, you ask me why I don’t want those people in my neighborhood? Are you for real? I distance myself from certain elements, those people have no sense, they are blind and will kill you for a sneakers, they are loud, have no class, will embarrass the shit out of me. I don’t go any ‘black’ places or any ‘Jamaican’ places because mi nuh wear sneakers and mi cyaan run so you won’t catch me around them.

When I go to Blue Martini, it’s a white environment and you drink, get drunk, dance crazy, dance with man and woman, have a fun time, the valet bring the car and it’s a good night. When you go Jamaican or black places, no telling what may pop off at any moment. I don’t join that shit. If the crowd is too black, remember I am uncomfortable and want to leave.

When Ginger Bay was just opened it was pure uptown Jamaicans and then all the bugguh yaga dem start coming, everybody that use to go before, stopped.

I know how and what these people are and I have no intentions of affiliating with them on any level. I ain’t even acknowledging your presence with your grills and tattoos and your loudness. Not me, sorry.

These people make a mockery of themselves in every way. From the pants under their asses, the damn ugly gold in their mouths, the prison tattoos and the way how they are boisterous and ignorant. They act like monkeys which is why white America view them as dregs of society. I felt the same way and turned my nose up at them until I understood the bigger picture.

I can speak on it, understand it and pity them but I will do it from a distance. I’m not going to march with anyone. I’m not going to riot with anyone. I’m not opening my door for anyone and none of these people live in my neighborhood and I will make it a point of duty to edify anyone that there are black people such as myself and then there are niggas such as those people. Vast difference!

@Met, I’m with you on the not killing myself for no kid. So you know what, from birth she under heavy training. This child has never heard about Beyonce or Rhianna, does not know there is a BET or MTV. I talk to her like a grown up and explain how the world is, the people in the world. Mek she stay sheltered and hidden from the world, she smart academically, proper and full of manners and I’m her world. Me nah throw her out to the wolves disguised as friends. Once she mentions, “my friends say”, from pre school she’s been hearing, “you’re friend is an idiot that doesn’t have any sense, only mommy has sense and knows everything”.
So now, them cyaan tell her a thing if mommy didn’t say it, because it’s been drilled in her for so long that all her friends are idiots.

I’ma do my best but God forbid, there is a line because I don’t have tolerance for idiots. So if I show you the right road and you decide to go elsewhere, this mommy will not be found.

So question for anyone who can answer this for me……what about the young black men who were and still are being raised in a single parent household ( moms in particular) who are well behaved children…respectful and disciplined…not criminal minded/ thug acting…choose to walk the str8 and narrow every day despite so many obstacles facing them on a daily basis….with no father figure or male role model in the home……why haven’t the turns to gangs, robbing, stealing, thugging, being a menace to society????????? I would like for those ( in particular who support rioting as a means to bring about change) to answer my question(s)….

  • Yep! says:

**why haven’t they turned to Gangs, robbing, stealing, thugging, becoming a menace to society???????

  • Little Willie says:

Foxy Lady…..a suh yu a roll girl. Blue Martini????? Dallaz karreck…. lololol.

  • Foxy Lady says:

@Willie, like I said, if he pulled a gun at the cops, then it becomes self defense and justifiable.
However, the black community have dealt with so many incidents of young, unarmed black men being gunned down, that not only does it leave a bitter taste in our collective mouths but we’ve become jaded and do not trust their stories or the outcomes as none have ever been convicted for any of the infamous murders.

There is nothing else that we are saying here than the above. Plus the gunshot in his back leaves open many questions. Since there are still conflicting stories, these questions must be asked.

  • Foxy Lady says:

    @Willie, yuh mad enuh lol

  • Chocolate says:

@Little Willie – I feel you on that comment about being a parent versus a friend. I know someone who acts as if her son and herself are best friends. Do you know what that boy has been doing to her now? Beating her ass! The last time he kicked her down, called her a bitch and told her he will shoot her in her face. How old is he? The tender age of 16! Way to go son!! I told her what i really thought and needless to say we dont talk now

  • sweet says:

@WILLY, MOTHER, FATHER, GRANNY, GRANDPA, UNCLE, AUNTIE, GODIE, PREACHER, COACH ANYONE AND EVERYONE WHO CAN SEE THAT THERE IS GOOD IN ALL. NO MATTER HOW SOME OF THESE YOUTHS GWAAN LIKE DEM TUFF AN GYANGSTA, SOME A DEM A WISH FI A BETTER WAY. I DO NOT KNOW HIS MOTHER AN I SHALL NOT CONDEMN NOR JUDGE HER PARENTING SKILLS. JUST AS MOST PARENTS I ASSUME SHE DID THE BEST SHE COULD, GIVEN HER CIRCUMSTANCES. YES HE MADE A VERY BAD CHOICE IF INDEED HE HAD A GUN AND WAS STUPID ENOUGH FI GO FI IT. BUT IN THAT SPLIT SECOND THAT HE MADE THAT CHOICE COST HIM HIS LIFE, I BELIEVE THAT IF MY TAX PAYING DOLLAH COULDA PAY FI JEFFREY DAHMER WHO NYAAM NUFF A WE, THEN IT COULDA PAY FI THIS YOUTH TOO. IF NYPD NEVER HAVE A NEVER ENDING LICENCE TO KILL BLACK MEN.

  • Met says:

Sweet this mother here seems like a decent woman but u have some mothers whey God knows they are bad mothers and it haffi be said because it is clear that they are. What I will say is this, yes there is good in all but also most of the attitudes we have now were what we were born with, we do not necessarily change, we can learn to adapt. I believe that there are some people who are born and cut out fi badness and no matter what you do, you will kill yourself and dem still standing doing bad. Everyone of us deserve a fair amount of chances but if a mother sees where a child that she has is taking her away from the other children then she has to either get help or leave that child because in trying to save one you will lose all. It happens all the time. You have to know when to pull away. It could have happened where the police didnt kill him but also he could have killed someone’s innocent child so in waiting for him to reform is good but at what cost?

  • Foxy Lady says:

@Sweet, well stated, if we can pay to house Jefferey Dahmer wey eat pure black man, we damn sure could pay to house him too.

@Met, that is a long standing debate about nature vs nurture. Buoi, it hard fi sey dem born suh and its not the environment that created them, but then again you see some barbaric crimes and you have to question yourself.

It’s a sad state that the black community is in. They won’t learn and they won’t change. It’s all they know and white America has just written them off. This has been ongoing for so many years that these people don’t know that different exists for them. They may see it on tv but they can’t identify with it, they think you act bourgeois if you live there and hold your head up, they think you are a uncle Tom if you speak proper, they think you are a sell out if you are not down with the f”ry.

Mi sorry fi dem but I’m only one person and realize sey mi cyaan save dem. And that mother must have known that if it wasn’t the cops it would have been the thugs.

Nuttin drive fear ina mi more than a black American from the projects. Jamaican people will come from the ghetto and move out and live up and leave it behind them but seems like di yankee dem stuck same place.

  • Foxy Lady says:

@Chocolate, it’s no easy feat raising kids particularly boys but like everything else, there must be a line. I believe in being a parent to my child with a close relationship but don’t mistake me for one of your friends or else you’re gonna lose the parent and get a drill sergeant instead. Mi pray to God not to have a son because boys are hard to raise. You have no idea what they do when they leave your house. I had a friend whose father was a prominent pastor, they lived in Jacks Hill, Jamaica. That pastor would think his son was at school meanwhile the boy gone wid him drug dealing friends. The guy came to America and in no time he was charged for murder, the pastor wife couldn’t handle the embarrassment and committed suicide and he’s still doing life.
And his people dem were wealthy, and he didn’t want for crap.

  • Met says:

Some Jamaicans come here and pick up dat same stuck ina one place style Foxy. I knew this lady she was american and had one daughter, that lady was not a projet mom, in fact her father was Jamaican. Di dawta decide fi do drugs ooooooo and she tried and tried wid har so till she had to let go because the daughter had 4 kids that she had to take care of and she was young too..When di dawta si seh she nuh have nobody out there she turn her life around but it was her mother who raised her children for years. Sometimes love is not enough because she knew she had a good mom and was from a good home but chose the wrong way same way. If the mother had kept her close and gi har money etc she would not have stopped doing drugs. It take an individual to want to change. My other half the same..he was a troubled kid and dem do everything…he said one day he got up and decided him jus a go stop ..not for anyone..not because nobody told him to…and he was also from a good home..but no gang ting or badness doe ..jus gi trouble

  • Beautifully Made says:

Foxy I agree with u a zillion %. Yo this problem of how things are changing in today’s world and society is f-ing SCARY. Its a NEW WORLD ORDER!!! Brainwash and destroy black ppl especially the children. OG i usually agree with u, but i think u have it wrong on this. Yes, children can be unruly but theres no excuse to use excessive force like the police did. DT’s violating black ppl constitutional right by searching them for no apparent reason. It sounds very suspicious that the boy turned and point the gun at the officer …. for what? he would have known that they were going to SHOT him. When the Jews the other day was out protesting u didnt see a whole lot of police. Black ppl need to stop putting down there own n youths. Theres so much that can be said, but we need to stand together as a community. Black ppl are too DIVIDED!!!!!!!!!!

  • fashiondoll says:

The cost factor will always be paramount in the rearing of our children. What is the price that we will pay to ensure upstanding citizens? How many of us immigrants spoil our children and become friends instead of parents? There can be good in every person but once you are not expressing good attributes or a willingness to change, why should I continue making sacrifices and endure emotional stress, hoping you will reform? Only God is divine and therefore we all have to count the cost and make a decision to get the necessary help where needed, or continue to bury our youths

  • Foxy Lady says:

    @Beautifully made………………..beautifully said!

  • Beautifully Made says:

@ foxy yuh deh a FL? Blue Martini ooooooo lol

  • Foxy Lady says:

Met, every year the CEO’s pay increase by millions of dollars, I mean obscene amounts of money and the minimum wage stays the same yet the cost of food and gas increases. To a lot of these people, it’s easier and better to collect food stamps and get welfare than to go work for minimum wage that can’t pay the bills and buy food so I guess that’s why they stay there.
Met, yuh know when I will sympathize with a yankee because I know they felt the legacies of slavery and segregation and racism, mi nuh sympathize wid no Jamaican wey come here and stuck ina di projects.
We nuh have yankee mentality. I know many Jamaicans that work 3 jobs to buy house, do LPN, then RN and set up themselves nicely and not selling drugs or doing wrongs and came from nothing and started out in someone’s couch suh fi Jamaicans come here and joke out dem time it’s crazy.
Mind you, life ain’t easy at the best of times, nothing worthwhile comes easy but to just give in like that and get complacent, no sah.

  • Met says:

Foxy many Jamaicans have changed..the culture has changed we were known to be hard working etc but not anymore. You now have Jamaican mothers who have left Jamaica, came here and have children who they have taught the art of stealing and scamming. From early these children are in the system but as u said I can always sympathize wid di yankee dem fi slavery’s legacy but our Jamaicans have lost themselves to an extent

  • Nickki says:

As part of the medical team on call that night this kid was brought in to trauma I won’t comment on the ” he was shot in the back so he was not a threat” comments but as a single parent who raised a boy child to 18yrs old I will say this:Stop blaming the rappers and drug lords, the
KKKs and government and racism and the pot and pans for our childrens actions. We will get out of our children as much as we put in. When my kid was little i made sure i monitor every show he watch and for how long. As he got older I got more savvy ( I know how teenagers couls be, i was once one). I search book bags, under the bed, every drawer. I went to PT conferences. I was involved. When I went to BKLYN Collge and no relatives was available to watch him, I took him to class and made him sit in the back and do his homework or read a book. Whe I was in Med school I took that to the library with me when I had to go. I took that to class with me when some prof. permitted. When I wasn’t able to I stood home. When he tried sagging his pants in the streets , I made his ass shame in front of his friends. Today he is a freshman in college , very articulate, not one to bow to peeer pressure and sure know I will kill that ass if it ever go against what I struggled so hard in my young live to achieve for him and his siblings.
Point is I never left TV or the Streets to raise my son. I grew up in crown heights and knew shit was very real and that if I wanted my son to live to see his 18th birthday then I gotta teach him from early that some shit aint all it is cracked up to be ( read: gangs, the shit rappers be talking about in their songs etc). Expose our kids to different enviroments, let them see that there is a way out of the so called “ghetto”, and it is actually attainable, without repping blue or red, being drug runners or aspiring to be rappers or ballers. But it really begins in the home with us parents

  • Beautifully Made says:

I would agree with u Met that the caribbean ppl have now adapted the american way of life and outlook on “reality”. We are so enriched with a culture and spirituality that at one point and time others praised us and wanted to be like us. But its now about the have and have nots even when u live in the hood urself. The pushing of the gay agenda and less about family is appalling. N the lack of education and awareness is so evident with the above comments. Met we cannt expect the youth to be great young men and women b/c the parent are brainwashed with the lil wayne, kanye, jayz, rihanna, beyonce, kim k, gucci, lv etc etc etc etc illusions. Things are not happening because times are changing. Its being changed with a purpose and agenda. Thats y im so happy that I educate my 8yr old. Jamaicans / caribbean ppl are now just as bad. U cant tell them apart any longer. smh sad sad

  • Beautifully Made says:

    * excuse the typos

  • fashiondoll says:

@ Nickki i jus said the same thing to my hubby who jus come home that I search book bag and lift up mattrass from time to time. I have only boys and i know them not easy to raise but i use every psychology known to me and dem know me will shame dem in front of class room, etc if dem come outta line. I work from home some times and my kids dont know when is my home time so dem cant pull no stunt so easy. Even though the schools will call if they r absent, some days i show up at school and speak with guidance counsellor & teachers. I know its hard on a lot of parents but we got to make the effort to ensure that our race is not marginalized

  • Met says:

Agree beautifully made..mi haffi keep dis pan di front page tomorrow..good discussion going on.. one thing my spirit led me to say…we can only be unified in truth..we have to stand up for what is right so when our voices are raised many will listen. All the riots etc no real officials have spoken.

  • Met says:

fashion jus lift up bag a dash right out…mek di door dem stay open and suh..and nuh fraid fi nuh mek u kids mingle wid certain kids because everybaddie raise different ooooooo..as to school now……….. dem seh mi too mad so if anything dem calling smaddy else not i :travel
    :peluk everybaddie

  • Yep! says:

Job well done Nickki!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish your son much success, and you as well. I wish more people took the route you did …

  • PhantomPhoenix says:

Why is it that EVERY time police shoot and kill a black person that person (Jamaica and foreign) suddenly becomes the “jesus christ” of black oppression and deem to be ANGELS when it is FACT that they were the aggressor of what led to their demise?

It is FACT that these angels are demons a road an angels at home. I remember a little girl and har “crew” cuss me and I trailed them to a house, asked to speak to the parents and a house load a adults came out and I told them what occured. The mother ready fi cuss me fi coming to har door. I stood my ground til one man wid sense turn round and slap the shit out of the likkle gal and told her that’s how mofos could come and shoot up the house. Me tell him “thank you” and go inna me car and drive off.

Too me force ripe adults and video gangstas inna de black communities, and I say it’s full time to boycott any and all black entertainers who are symbols of these false standards.

  • Chocolate says:

@Foxy Lady 11:52, im in total agreement with you. The mistake the person i know made was she didnt draw a line in her and her sons relationship. I kept telling her he would “bite off her ears” (as mi granny use to seh) but that fell on deaf ears. My mom raised three boys and it was no easy feat but by the grace of God she did ok.

  • Observer says:

Foxy, I’m extending an invitation to you. Let’s have a drink at the Blue Martini (wink) and remember you cant wear shorts :)

You live by the gun so you shall dead by the gun. I dont have no compassion for the ills of society. What 16 year old doing on the dam streets 11:30 at night with a f—ing gun? Worse yet he is a dam gang member. The police was f—ing right. Who dont like it cant go chuck off Brooklyn Bridge. His idiot uncle had the balls to come show his face on TV and SAY: So What if he had a GUN? Nigger Really!!! These are the type of people that I wouldn’t not want my kids around. The city should sue the dam parents for wasting their bullets!!!! She should of kept her kid at home. From the time he walking with gun that alone mean’t he didn’t have any good intention. Imagine how much people children he done robbed and keep up f—ery on already. One less nigger to think about. Who feels it knows it.
