KINGSTON, Jamaica – The police have reported that a man has been taken into custody in relation to the murder of businessman, 52-year-old Melvin Chung, in downtown Kingston Saturday afternoon.
The arrested man’s identity is being withheld.

Reports are that about 1:30pm Chung was in the vicinity of 38 East Street, in the company of a security guard, when they were approached by a group of men, who robbed them of an undetermined sum of money and two firearms – a .38 revolver and a 9mm Browning pistol. The men then shot Chung dead, before escaping in the area.
Detectives attached to the Kingston Central Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) and members of the Major Investigation Taskforce (MIT) are investigating the shooting.

Word on the street is he wouldn’t give in to the regular demands for payments of extortion money. I think the police needs to go & dig up the man he normally uses to do the deposits, because he just call Mr. Chung & tell him he wouldn’t be able to come in that day & bam they just went & rob & kill the man like that. kmt

The person who “should have” made the lodgement did not call in ill. He was elsewhere doind something for Mr. Chung and would have taken longer than Mr. Chung could wait. Dont listen to everything the media spits out.

  • Paula says:

    R.I.P. Mr. Chung.
