  • Sting 2012 was plagued by lengthy delays, poor stage management and obvious disorganization.

The event was drawn out until the wee hours where patrons were tortured with mediocre off-key performances from less than a handful of entertainers who should have clearly worked when the night was young.

Promoter Isaiah Laing tells Music News that the one hour late start of the Boxing Day show may be the contributory factor to some of those glitches.

So Sting organizers didn’t have time on their side. Therefore, could this be the reason for the absence of Mavado, John Holt, Gyptain and Macka Diamond?

Nonetheless, Errol Dunkley and George Nooks were well received. Romine Virgo shone bright so too did Esco Levi who joined his set.

Chronixx got a few forwards, so too did Flippa Mafia and Aidoina. And speaking of Aidonia, there were talks that the deejay was arrested following his performance but according to his publicist, Donia was never arrested.

Anyhow, Busy Signal who was expected to perform at 12:45 didn’t hit the stage until minutes after 4. Busy, who made his debut performance since his release from a US jail, started extremely hot and got the crowd riled up…. Then he got cold and warmed up a little before he exited. Busy however may have lamented a bit much on his experience in jail.

Konshens was so, so… He had the hits but at that hour of the morning the audience was in the mood for clashes.

Sizzla was however the man of the moment. Konlonji got authentic forwards after forwards from the riled up massive.

Where clashes are concerned, Kip rich slaughtered Tony Matterhorn, Merciless and even Ninja Man who openly announced that he’s resigning from lyrical warfare giving the title to his son Kip Rich. (But was this a ploy by Ninja Man – you can’t beat them so just join them)….

After calling out for Macka Diamond, Spice brought a donkey on stage and poked fun at Macka who was a no show. Another female made an attempt to clash Spice but that didn’t get off the ground as Spice blasted her saying she didn’t know who she was and continued calling out for Macka Diamond.

Foota Hype schooled selector Badda Bling in a friendly but very entertaining brief sound clash.

Black Ryno and Popcaan got physical.

It all started when Ryno insinuated a clash by walking up on PopCaan during his set. Popcaan on the other hand wasn’t having it and pushed Ryno off stage. Ryno returned to the stage and the two men threw wild blows luckily security was present and quell the fracas. Popcaan later returned to the stage and professed his love for Kartel. He also stated that he is the biggest artiste from Vybz Kartel’s former Portmore Empire.

Despite tight security, Sting 2012 didn’t get its usual bumper crowd and it wasn’t the best staging of the annual Boxing Day event. So what will happen next year when the event is expected to celebrate 30?

That was Sting’s promoter Isaiah Laing. Sting 2012 was held at Jam World Portmore on Wednesday.

    A DRAMATIC STING 2012
    —————————————-

Sting 2012 has come and gone, and like years passed was not without its drama, the fights, the late start and the security detail.

Highlights of the night included Busy Signal’s thrilling performance, his first in Jamaica since release from incarceration and in over 4 years. Then who will ever forget Popcaan being attacked in the wee hours of the morning, allegedly by members of Black Ryno’s entourage?

Publicist for Dancehall artiste Aidonia, Kaylia Williams has allegedly confirmed that the J-O-P boss was not charged for indecent language, following his performance on Sting 2012 this morning, contrary to some reports.

Reports are that Williams said the artiste was held by police officers following his performance in which profanity was allegedly used, and after minor questioning, was released without charge.

The event saw some interesting performances, and the females ensured that the audience was given a stellar show. The most subtle artiste was Etana, who kept it mellow, that mellowness was later abandoned when the other female acts, including Stylish and Gaza Slim took the stage, their outfits leaving very little to the imagination.

Reports are that Stacious went circus, entering the stage in a cage and with her own ring master, clad in a leopard outfit. She brought out the “wild cat” in her with a very racy performance. Spice kept the animal show going, performing with a donkey, meant as disrespect to fellow female entertainer Macka Diamond as the two have been feuding for some time.

Following reports, Dancehall artiste Popcaan got involved in a fight with fellow artiste Black Ryno during his performance at the event.

It is said that during Popcaan’s set, Black Ryno was allowed to enter the stage, and began what seemed to be an attempt at a clash. Popcaan reacted by shoving Ryno from the stage, and a fight broke out between the two and members of their entourages got involved.

The scuffle was quickly dissolved by the heavy security at the venue, and as a result, Popcaan’s performance was cut short, while Black Ryno was police escorted from the venue.

Dancehall artiste Busy Signal took the stage in the wee hours of the morning, and after an emotional performance where he reached out to ladies, and performed new songs loaded with warnings of people to stay away from trouble, Busy Signal was honoured with Sting’s inaugural game changer award.

big up Busy Signal but i think he gave a sumfest performance at sting, and i think he was a little bias 4 biggin up buju alone and not vybz kartel 2 after knowing that all of them were in the same situation, plus he had to be searching 4 forwards,i never liked the choir ting on stage either, prison has really changed him because he was not like this before he went there,he is trying to be slick,he did an intervierw with winford and he said he dont know who name tommy lee and that is a blatant lie,we all know that,i respect busy but lying ridiculously dosent make it..i guess he couldnt big up vybz on sting because bounty killer would be vex..yes people might have his performance as the best but kip-rich performance was the most entertaining and exciting and memory lasting…
