REVIVAL SESSION FOR THE NATION?

Don’t confuse us with the occult — Revivalists
Saturday, December 01, 2012

REVIVALISTS from the 14 parishes of Jamaica will converge on Emancipation Park in New Kingston today for a day of prayer for restoration of the nation.
The event, which starts at 4:00 pm, will feature revival singing and playing of the drums, as well as presentations on Revivalism in Jamaica, officiated by Bishop Tony Cousins.

Ahead of the gathering, one of the events co-ordinators, Naomi Reynolds, the daughter of the late Kapo Reynolds who was one of Jamaica’s best known revivalists, said the Revivalist movement should not be confused with the occult as many Jamaicans tend to do.
“People see Revivalism as backward, superstitious, part of the occult; but this is wrong. The movement consists of people who are professionals — lawyers, doctors, graduates of tertiary institutions. It is a microcosm of the society.
“The tenets of Revivalism are very necessary at this time in our country, and we would like to see it adopted as part of the way forward to restoring our nation and communities,” said Reynolds. “We want to assist in shaping and uplifting our country, and tomorrow’s event (today) will mark an important new start.”
Reynolds said the event would be a first for the movement and it is planned to replicate it annually.
Among the invitees are Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller; fomer Prime Minister Edward Seaga, himself an expert on Revivalism; Dr Omar Davies and Olivia ‘Baby’ Grange.
