JUSTICE NOT POSSIBLE IN JAMAICA!

BARBARA GAYLE, Staff Reporter

The two policemen charged with the murder of the son of dancehall artiste Spragga Benz have been freed.

Constables Audley Lawrence and André Hare were freed yesterday of the murder of 17-year-old Carlton Grant Jr after Supreme Court judge Horace Marsh upheld no-case submissions from defence lawyers Valerie Neita Robertson and Carolyn Reid-Cameron.

The judge said the crown did not present sufficient evidence for him to send the case to the jury. He pointed out that there was no nexus between the policemen and the murder because they were not identified by the sole eyewitness . He said from the forensic evidence there was no proof that the fragment of the bullet recovered from the back off the head of the deceased came from the policemen’s firearms.

The crown, represented by Meridian Kohler, deputy director of public prosecutions, led evidence at the in camera trial in the Home Circuit Court that Grant was unarmed when he was fatally shot on August 23, 2008.

Evidence was given that on the day of the incident Grant and another young man were riding a bicycle in downtown Kingston, when they were stopped by the police. The young men were told to run and while running, the police allegedly fired shots at them. Grant was fatally shot.

Police reports were that Grant and another man were riding a bicycle along Church Street, downtown Kingston, when the police stopped them. The police said shots were fired at them and they returned the fire. The police claimed that Grant was accidentally shot by the man who was travelling on the bicycle with him.

Who di hell is Meridian Kohler? Is dis a Jamaican person? caa dat name sound strange.

A same ting in North America, very rarely will police officers be found guilty for killing a civilian. Is a universal police brotherhood and sisterhood network wah protect each other. Spragga nuh care wah justice inna di law of the lands, di greatest, surest and swiftest justice lies in the Universal laws of karma. Justice will be served cause nuhbaddy can get weh from karma.

  • kim says:

goose bumps full mi skin when mi read dis,, spragga nuh worry urself hon just leave all vengance to god…R.I.P. Carlton

  • Kunta says:

Then the question now, ‘will the police press charges against the other man who accidentally shot Carlie’, since the defense alleges that the shooter is the other man.

Something nuh right in all a dis. Seems the prosecutors needed more evidence and expert witnesses which comes down to money.

I feel for Spragga and his family because it is clear justice was not served.

  • Sad verdict. The jury didn’t even get a chance to rule. The judge made the ruling. Mr. Prosecutor, were you really interested in serving justice with this one???? Seems like the presentation of your case was weak….was it on purpose???
